1. I recommend a much larger rug, something that will encompass your whole sofa x 2 (i.e., imagine you had another sofa facing the current one - get a rug for that space).

2. With the rich wood tones and dark sofa, I think you should balance out that heaviness (though it is lovely!) with a light color rug and pillows. You already have a white rug, which is definitely the correct path. If you want to branch out into a color, go into the cool tones. Blue or green is best. Purple wraps backs around to red and gets too close to warm. In any case, still stick to white with hints of blue/green.

As for style of rug, that depends on what you like! I’ve included photos of what I like, but whichever design you pick, I strongly suggest you keep it faint in order to prevent the rug from overpowering the space. Remember the rug will be big.

With the pillows, again stay with blue/green, but you can go with more saturated hues and bolder designs complimented with lighter tints.

Keep in mind how you use throw pillows. Do you nap with themnapping? Are they mostly decorating? Do you pets get on the sofa? Kids? I take these into consideration when choosing materials. (No sequins, beads, or scratchy fabrics for me!)

3. Pick out the coffee table after the rug is set up in the house. I recommend a round or oval coffee table the balance out the square angles of the sofa, media table, dining table, etc.

I think a great tie in with the room is the existing natural wood pillar next to the sofa. Get a coffee table that is round and with a wood top close to that same color.
