Double Daffodil Recomendation

Hello Everyone,

I am looking for a good strong double daffodil that pretty much stays upright without falling over. I'm new to daffodils and am not sure which one's are best. I've looked online and really like the way "Love Call" looks but I don't want to invest in a bunch of them or anything else that falls over. I'm in zone 8a if that matters, in Northeast Ga.

Thanks

    Thanks for the info posierosie.

Actually I did plant 100 Tahiti bulbs last fall and it looks as if all of them have came up. It will be a few more days here before they bloom so we'll see, I really liked them in all the photo's. I just have another spot I need something in.

I also planted 300 Dutch Master's and I have to say that I'm really impressed with them. These flowers are huge! They are nothing like any other yellow daffodil I've saw. I'm planting another 400 of them this fall.

This is my first year with any daffodil's, in all I planted just shy of 1000 bulbs. Cant hardly wait to see them all.

Well after more studying/looking I have noticed that the Love Call I mentioned before is actually a split corona in place of a double (told you I was a rookie...lol). I have also found the same called by another name, Butterfly (Orange) but the photo's are a little different. I think unless someone has some negative results with it I will try them also along with the Cheerfulness.

I also remembered that I planted about a 100 Golden Ducat doubles so we'll see how they stand up so to speak.

posierosie; I'll try taking some photos to post up but I'll warn you now........ I'm no photographer so don't expect much.

Also if you guy's/gals don't mind. where does everyone get their bulbs?

I like Van Engelen /John Scheepers for quality bulbs. Odessey bulbs for rare and less available items. Amazing quality.

For items that don't need a "name" my local nursery and big box store has been great.

You may be disappointed by Golden Ducat. A very large bloom, it flops a lot for me. The huge blooms are impressive, but too heavy for the stems, especially after a spring storm. Really a pretty flower though. I love the split corona ones, and they aren't so heavy and less apt to flop over. The Cheerfulness are much smaller flowers so don't flop

    Thanks Nancy,

I've saw a lot of mixed reviews on the Golden Ducat but most say they will flop over. When I got them they were on sale in late November at Wally World and I got them for nearly nothing. All I knew then was that I liked the picture on the label.

Going forward I'll be looking deeper into the flower and be a little better prepared and maybe knowledgeable about what I want and what to expect from them.

Cheerfulness is really reliable for warm climates but if you want a large flowered one Double Campernelle is the most reliable and vigorous double I've tried here in South Texas. The stems are sturdy enough to hold up under the coastal winds. They bloom too late (middle of February here ) to get hit by a 75 mph blue norther. Double Campernelle from California growers isn't the same or do as well as Double Campernelle from Alabama.
