Pillow Talk

I freely admit that I'm not at all good with pillows and admire pictures of rooms with perfect pillow choices which I can't achieve no matter what. Perhaps you can say yay or nay to these choices and/or suggest alternatives. The bed now has the winter cover on, not the white quilt with embroidered flowers. I was too lazy to put on the matching shams since these from the summer quilt didn't look too bad. We just now pushed the rug under the bed, which does look much better.

ingrid, I would just bring the two aqua pillows closer together and eliminate the third pillow, as Lisa suggests.

If do you want a third pillow, I would use a lumbar shape, but I really don't think a third pillow is needed.

I love the colors and the fabrics and agree with becky and lisa (prefer the second picture for the sofa.)

I think the biggest problem is the color of your headboard - it jus dominates everything. Could you slipcover it? I know reupholstery with the tufting would be very costly, but perhaps a lined - even interlined slipcover in a neutral color?

I choose to use two large European square shams that go in front of the two pillows on each side that are for sleeping. The European shams hide the wrinkles/rumpled look bed pillows get after being slept on. Mine are ancient ones that are Battenburg and embroidery, made by a company that has been out of business for decades - they are white and they are a BEAR to iron when I launder them annually. But they can be made out of anything. I much prefer them to a bunch of throw pillows which are a pain to remove every night. Easy to remove two and put them stacked on the bench at the foot of the bed (have to leave room for the dog to jump up on the bench to get to the bed!).

Anglophilia, is your bed with the square European shams a queen or king? I have a queen bed and 2 square European shams do not hide the rumpled sleeping pillows whether I lay the sleeping pillows flat or prop them against the head board. How do you position the 4 pillows?

    Excuse the hijack, please Ingrid.

I'm glad everyone agrees about the red pillow being redundant, but wasn't sure whether the yellow silk pillow goes well, even though I do like it. I tried the bed with just the two aqua pillows and prefer that also. I knew you ladies would have the answers! Thanks,

Love the bed, just not the rug with it sorry.

For me the first couch Pillows would look better if you picked one color or the other...not both. I think I prefer the gold.

Second couch...only light blue pillows. Really softens it up...

BTW, I rather like your headboard.

I like your headboard as well and also your beautiful rug, but i do not think the bedding does justice to either. Would start with all new bedding before choosing throw pillows...

Love your rug! Just a thought...I’m wondering how navy blue bedding with a few gold accents would look. That would tie in the headboard with the rug.

Delilah, my bed is a Queen. No, the European square pillows don't totally hide the sleeping pillows, but I wouldn't want them to as they have lovely decorative flanges and drawn thread embroidery. They hide the rumpled middle of the pillows where ones head goes.

I tried just the yellow pillows and then just the blue pillows on the floral couch and neither one looked good, the yellow not relating to anything and the blue looking boring. It will have to stay the way it is, for now at least.

I took the yellow pillow off the settee and agree that it looks better with just the blue pillows. I had to take a picture with artificial light. What do you all think?

The only reason the Karastan rug is in the bedroom is because we bought a new one for the TV room because the edges were getting frayed on the Karastan. I wonder if it might not be better in the guest room. I just recently bought the ivory embroidered quilt because of advice I was given here, but then it got cold and I switched to our winter quilt. The picture below is of the winter quilt with a rectangular gray pillow with gold trim. As you can see the carpet is now under the bed. I don't know if I'll ever get this bedroom right. I'm not going to buy another bed cover; I already have four now, and none of them seem to be right. I know the gold headboard is the problem but I'm stubbornly hanging in there with it. I have no idea why.
