Hi Karissa, your yard looks lovely! I live in Austin and have a small garden so I do have some extra seeds. Some are from packets a couple years old but they've still been germinating for me. I'm not sure how to direct message you but I just started "following" you, so if you can PM me we can arrange a meet up sometime!

What're you looking for? wildflowers, annuals, natives? Are you in clay or limestone brackets soils?

I would take both edible seeds and non-edibles. I have both gardens. My food garden is the one pictured here and my flower garden is in the front of my house. I have great soil that is a mixture of a rich topsoil/clay/sand. I have about 1-2ft of topsoil then 1ft of sand and then a thin layer not even a 1ft of clay everywhere in my yard. Most of my garden though is in raised beds with organic gardening topsoil that has been fertilized with my homemade compost. It grows most everything. Anything that would help me out is definitely appreciated.

If I grew vegetables (which I mostly don't) I would get seeds from the vegetables I eat. I keep throwing away viable seeds of tomato, bell peppers, zucchini, etc. I also used to plant the bottom part of lettuces and scallions. Just an idea...

I try to keep seeds from most everything but I have found most of the ones I get from "store" food don't grow too well for me. That is why I was looking for seeds that people either have had luck with growing from, had left over, or is from past crops that they saved. I've also tried the growing from parts of things but they usually die in this Texas heat. Maybe I'm just doing it wrong.... :(

Yeah, it could be. Lettuce and cilantro don't grow in the heat. However, scallions and rosemary grow for me all year long. Even during winter. Give it a try. I also grow basil and oregano spring-fall.

My rosemary, oregano, and sage made it and are thriving very well. Everything else pretty much died. I had 2 heads of "lettuce" that grew out of no where and I fed it to my tortoises cause they didn't look very well and I wasn't exactly sure it was actually lettuce. I also still have asparagus growing but it takes 3 years to propagate from what I read and it will be 3 years this year so hopefully I will get to harvest some. I have good luck with beans and tomatoes but the plants die in the fall so I have to start over again. I can't plant anything that is like onions or garlic cause my dogs like them and hop the fence and eat it and it hurts them so those are out unless I do them out front and I will definitely have to try some basil cause I haven't tried that one yet. Thanks for the tip.

I figured since I wrote this out anyway, I'd post my list in the thread in case anyone else is interested. Just private message me your address and tell me how many seeds you want of which type, and I can mail them to you. Do note that not all of these have done well for me, I just don't want my stash to go to waste and maybe they will do better in your garden. Here's a list of what I have:

- Happy Lights Hollyhock (Botanical Interests) gave up on hollyhocks due to rust

I have been planting seeds yesterday and have been going through some seeds

Coriander seed, Paper ash, buckeye, Echeandia texensis (crag lilly), Red Turkscap , pink rock rose (Pavonia lasiopetala), rattlesnake master, Las lunas bluestem, aristolochia fimbriata. I will be having many more as spring progresses. like standing cypress, Blackfoot daisy, 4 nerve daisy, PM me from my page.
