Tiny, awkward living room

Is it cheating to repost this? I didn't have pictures before and now I do.

965 sq foot house in San Jose, built 1939. It's charming (or will be), but TINY, and has very little storage (two tiny closets in the bedrooms). And since I'm going to move in, I need to CLEAN it (thanks ex-tenants/ex-friends), PAINT it, and do some repairs. More relevant here, I need some furniture to sit on and store stuff in, but I am stumped about how to proceed. Can anyone suggest solutions?

I'm thinking of leaving the couch (72") where it is, then adding a big overstuffed chair to the right of the fireplace, a round coffee table or ottoman between them, side tables next to the chair, and a wardrobe (for coats) on the wall that is behind the entry door when it's opened. But where do I put the TV (for me, above the FP is not an option)? Maybe I just have to resign myself to coathooks and a tiny bench on the short wall (24") next to the door? And how do I seat more people if I have a few over for dinner (although if it's more than two, maybe better to go out!)

The couch in the picture was a Craig's list purchase (needs cleaning and cushions re-stuffed). It's a Ralph Lauren, but I only paid $300, so if a smaller one would work better, I won't cry about getting rid of the one I have.

Thanks for any help.
