It’s rare that all of the appliances from a single manufacturer are the “best” in their class. I think it’s smart to mix and match if you care more about quality and functionality than you do about matching labels. We have a Samsung range, a KitchenAid dishwasher, a Kennore microwave range hood (which I dislike but it came with the house) and a Frigidaire refrigerator. They are all stainless steel, they all match for the most part and it all looks fine.

I have a Berazonni Range all gas, KA double wall ovens all electric, Bosh DW,Fridgedaore All fridge all freezercolumns all stainless and look just fine together . You buy appliances for how they work for how you cook not because they match.

In my opinion, mixing brands is OK. I always tell my customers at my store to pick appliances that match the look/finish instead of the brand. If you are picky, then of course the same line of products will usually match and look best. The handles and finish are the most obvious part of an appliance to look at when determining how to mix and match.

If you're not stuck with a builder package and you care about effectiveness and efficiency of your appliances, from cleaning (dishwasher) to cooking and refrigeration, then definitely mix and match. If your kitchen is just for show and you use it mostly to heat up takeout, then it doesn't matter much and you can choose based on looks.

I have a BlueStar range which is blue and an Electrolux wall oven, with a Frigidaire fridge and Bosch dishwasher. No matching at all, but everything other than the range is some form of stainless steel finish.

My bigger concern is that you have the fridge across from the sink and from your description, you have an island in the way. How will you take stuff out of the fridge and bring it to the sink to prep. Do you have a prep sink on the island?

Those few steps can add up very quickly and turn into a PITA . My biggest peeve is the fact people care if all the handles on their appliances match

I believe that if you dont care much about matching the BRANDS, you should ATLEAST match the handles and the finish of the appliances so it can look aesthetically pleasing/easy on the eyes.

The easiest way is to match trim elements. I'm not a fan of ranges because they are an "all in one" and generally have one function that works well, and the other(s) not so well. Here's how I did it with a wall oven and an induction cooktop.

Thank you so much for your responses everyone! The kitchen plan is a work in progress. We will, however, have a prep sink in the island immediately in front of the fridge. I’d rather go with a stovetop and oven, but I am also trying to keep everything in budget. We’d like two true ovens plus a microwave (rather than just a convection/microwave combo and a single oven) and a range seems like more of a cost-effective way to achieve that. I am trying to be cognizant regarding handles/finishes but likely will mix and match brands. I’ll post a pic when it’s done and you can tell me what you think!

No one cares about matching handles. And stainless steel finishes often don't match even within the same brand. The manufacturer will buy stainless steel from different factories, or different runs, at different times, so they don't match. You never notice it. Buy the appliances you like best, regardless of whether they match. Quick - think about all your friends' and relatives' kitchens - can you remember the handles on their appliances?

Stainless is the best finish just because they all work together no matter the maker , BTW friedajune MANY people are concerned about handles not matching boggles my mind .IMO ranges with 2 tiny ovens are useless and to get decent sized double ovens with a range yoou need to go a larger range than makes sense in any kitchen Go cooktop and double wall ovens with a separate MW

We’re going to have a range with one full oven, and then built in wall oven (full size), and a microwave. So two full ovens, but on different walls, from different manufacturers. This is mostly what I’m worried about- is it weird to have two ovens (one part of the range) from different brands?

I am going to end up having two wall ovens that don't match unless someone makes a genuine copper wall oven in the next year or so.

However the range top is copper and stainless steel so a stainless wall oven will still "coordinate" especially if I do stainless counters.

I have three ovens from two different brands (two in the BlueStar 48" range and one Electrolux wall oven) and the brands have never been a concern. I've been reading at GardenWeb for years now figuring out what the best brands are for what I need, and whether I could find them, and then reasonably priced, in Canada. Handles never entered the process : ) .

But what about Miele and Subzero/Wolf with different stainless finishes and different handles? Ok to include in same stacked ovens with both brands? If not, assume ok both in same kitchen.

When looking at homes I’ve noticed that a lot of high end homes have mismatched high end appliance such as a Subzero fridge and Bosch dishwasher but newer mid tier and lower end homes have matching appliances. How much it matters for resale I think depends on what price point you’re at.

That's because the higher end houses are likely either custom or semi-custom, so the homeowners can pick whatever brands they like, or from a range of brands/models. But the mid/lower tier houses are usually production/tract houses where the builders have one standard package, which the builders get a good deal on because they buy in quantity.

I know that. Since that is what buyers at different price points are used to I recommend following that trend when choosing appliances if you're concerned about resales.

We have a Wolf range and then an oven stack of; Miele warming drawer + Miele Oven + GE Advantium Fastbake. Looks good, cooks well.

Considering the average lifespan of appliances nowadays, one may as well get the the appliances one likes for now, and deal with resale down the road when the situation arises.

So true Becky. Seems they don’t last long. My Viking range has been repaired so so so many times. Replacing with blue star. But my Viking wall oven seems fine. Trying to decide if I buy the new Bluestar wall oven so that they match or not they are only about 14 inches apart on the same wall. Such a tough decision. A $6000 decision.
