Yes, the sound of a blunt needle. Thing is, I replaced the Schmetz 75 quilting needle two days ago, halfway through this small quilt. No pins; cotton batting.

This quilt is all pinwheels, so lots of places where eight seams come together. Could all those layers be dulling the needles?

I doubt it. I think the needles are defective.

It could be that the point is bent slightly, which could happen if you're going through thick seam allowances.
