We have free- draining, sandy soil, but I amended the soil with perlite to increase drainage. We get most of our rainfall in winter so I want to avoid cold, wet water pooling around the roots and caudex. here are mounds of perlite before i mixed them into the soil. it was dark by the time I was done planting so I'll try you get a photo of the plants in the ground tomorrow in daylight.

Here they are in the ground! it'll be fun to watch how they develop over this summer.

You have the climate...they await the 100's and lows in the 70's. Just make sure they have plenty of room for people to walk by. You dont want to move them again just as they really get going.

Perlite is great for choice plants..its made a difference for my Mango..if not for it,I think my clay and cool weather would not allow the good growth I've gotten. Perlite stays forever too..it does not sink in like gravels and course sands will.

Not cheap...but for valuable plants..its a must use.
