Curtain Rod Problem

Greetings: Purchased a 28-48" blackout curtain rod from JCP where the curtains can wrap around to the wall. It goes up this way: Attach the post brackets to the wall, then slide the ends of the rod over posts, then secure with a set screw through a small hole in the rod to press it up snug to the post bracket. The rod breaks down into two pieces and one fits inside the other. The post brackets that came with then are also different sizes, but I don't know which post bracket to use with which side rod since each side will both fit. The smaller bracket came with red tape around the bubble warp to call attention to the size difference. It is meant to come like this because I ordered another thinking it was a packing mistake, and it came the same way. No help from the web description or the CSR who could not help either
and had no manufacturer number to call. I will provide a picture of the
post brackets.
