Well it is a pear alright but I can't tell you what kind.

Just based on the form, it looks to be more like an ornamental pear than fruiting one. Pyrus calleryana, the most common ornamental variety, has a very narrow, almost columnar habit, which gets it into trouble in colder, snowy winter areas. Edible or fruiting pears, Pyrus communis, tend to have a more open, spreading habit, much like an apple tree.

I agree with Gardengal48, that definitely looks like an ornamental pear. It will produce tiny fruits that the birds will enjoy, but you will not want to eat. Here in Nebraska, they are very common in landscaping, though i think the flowers smell terrible (just my opinion).

OK. Too bad. I had an Asian pear in Riverside, CA. Wonder if I can grow it in this humid zone 8b?
