The first could be A.p. 'Aureum' - but I'd need to see it when the leaves are fully unfurled There is/are no registered cultivars with the name 'Aurea' or 'Sunrise'. And that is not 'Japanese Sunrise' - that is a type of coral bark maple and there is no color showing on that bark!! Unfortunately, mislabeling of JM cultivars is a bit too common.....too many sub-par vendors out there.

Wait till your Shindeshojo is fully leafed out before you decide to prune :-)

And yours are about a week ahead of mine but I'd say the first is Shishigashira and the second MY. But give 'em a month and check back.........it's sometimes tricky to attempt to confirm an ID with brand new, not fully developed foliage. It can change pretty radically and I might change my mind.

I'm not sure why but a really good red leafed maple is missing from my collection. I have a bunch that are sort of red sometime and a few that turn red in fall but none that are red from start to finish. I just don't know yet which one I want. I use Fireglow a lot in my design work so I am sort of leaning in that direction. But it depends on what other goodies my nursery buyer has brought in that might catch my eye.
