We are remodeling a house that was built in early 70's. We have pretty much gutted everything and rebuilding the house, making it more transitional.

I've put up with ugly popcorn ceiling for over a decade, and finally got my chance to get rid of it. We are getting to the stage of finishing off sheet rocking the walls and ceiling. The contractor just informed me he wants to use orang peel texture to cover up all the cutouts we had to do for electrical and plumbing changes (there were many). I absolutely hate having any texture on the walls and ceilingsAny ad, I think it will age the house again. Is there any alternative? I know smooth finish will take more time and precision, which is probably what the contractor wants to avoid. Any advise or suggestions is greatly appreciated.
