I'm not sure if Bob Smoley's is in operation anymore or Glasshouse Works.

There's always eBay and Etsy... although, buyer beware. I saw a Whitney mislabelled as something entirely different not long ago on eBay. I've even heard stories of people buying things off of either of the two sites and when they got it it was a miniature that was made for a dollhouse :) .

Then, like Matt M said, there's always trading. I know people on here are happy to share depending on what they have available. And there's Dave's Garden where people trade plants a lot, although I've never traded with anybody there.

People on this group are very generous. Do you have anything to trade? Doesn't have to be Sansevieria obviously but other plants or garden items? When I was starting I got some very nice plants for only postage or just a few dollars extra here. I have tried to forward the same generosity to others. We are a generous group IF it is obvious that someone is genuinely interested and will take care of the plants (not just someone who likes to grab "free stuff"). I don't have much/anything extra at the moment (my winter growing space is limited) but others may and/or many of us will certainly have pups/extras by the end of summer. It wouldn't hurt to post a "wish list" here to see if someone has what you are looking for.

My sans collection is small, but growing. Could perhaps trade masoniana or zeylanica in a few more weeks, still waiting on the others to start pushing up pups, (A few of my others didn't come with ID, but that's a different conversation!)

I do have a variety of other houseplants (20+) that are tradeable once the weather is right- mostly of the pothos, philos, spider type.

The main sans on my wishlist are Coppertone, Twist, and Cylindrica, although I keep stumbling across new ones that catch my eye,

Some here did well with Hirts Greenhouse but they did me wrong and didn't care about it. Bob Smoley's wife is keep up the business. I purchased some nice plants off him. I have one extra Coppertone I grew for 'Rockdale' but he didn't need it. If his does all right, I can pass it along to you for just postage.

What I'm looking for, most people don't have it and it is expensive. I'm a nut for variegated plants. Well, if poison ivy was varieaged, I'll be itching all the time.

Yeah, Hirts is a no go for me also. Ordered a few things from them last year and wasn't happy with a single one. Unrooted cuttings sold as plants, wrong plants sent, etc.

If you do end up with an extra Coppertone that needs a home, please let me know. I would be more than happy to pay postage! It's one I've had my eye on for a while, something about it really appeals to me.

In the meantime, I'm making the rounds of all my favorite local nurseries waiting for them to get some new and exciting things in.

Ani, I finally placed an order today from Arid Lands (after looking and looking for many months), so I will be anxious to see how they arrive. I bought 3 Sansevierias: a pinguicula (I had been waiting months for them to cultivate more), a subspicata and a forskaliana. I am fortunate where I live, in SW Florida, to have a local grower who has propagated numerous Sans beyond the usual that you see in BB stores, so I have bought a lot from him, but lately, he seems to be focusing on other types of plants.

I have also seen people write favorably about the vendor Manuel mentioned, Glasshouse Works, and their web site looks fabulous, so.... The big thing for me is, I don't mind paying a few bucks more if I get a healthy and grow-able plant. I hope that is what Arid Lands turns out to be. I'll update here if I can. P.S. Today I received my plants from Arid Lands in Arizona -- just 4 days after placing the order -- so I thought I would give a brief report. I ordered a Sans pinguicula, and it arrived okay, about the size I would expect for a 1 gallon pot, okay roots (dry of course from the shipping, but okay). It's a nice plant and aside from the dryness of the leaves (they are actually folding in a bit), it is about what I expected.

I ordered a Sans forskaliana, again from a 1 gallon pot (which I think is about 6") -- and I swear, it looked like it was grown in a 2 gallon pot or larger, strong roots (dry of course), strong leaves. The third was a Sans subspicata from a 5" pot. That was the disappointment. Frankly, very dry roots and the 3 leaves were mediocre. One was already cracked. So here's my conclusion, amateur though it may be: I will probably order again from Arid Lands but may stick with the larger plants, 1 gallon at minimum.

Could be extra dry shipping due to cold temps expected in travel. If moistened they could rot easily. Should plump right back up. Some expected damage will show up in the leaves in the next few months. Nothing beats hand picked right at the nursery.

Went to the flea market Saturday and found in a plant shop there a s. powysii, and only $8.00. Never saw one in person, even here in Florida.

Nice... I need to move to Florida, more options because of prime growing locale. Most oddities I'd have to get through mail. I haven't even bothered with the flea markets yet, it's not consistently warm enough to bother with yet.

I have ordered from Glasshouse Works and Hirts, both with good results. Mind you, I have gotten some weak plants from time to time over the years ( I get plants from BB Stores, Nurseries and mail order, not to mention great friends who share), so no place is 100 %. all of the time.
