Do you have any close-up pics of it (preferably of the original plant or one of the bigger clumps)?

I'm assuming that the ones growing in the "cracks" are seedlings.

Undoubtedly 'Elegans' or its ilk, and lots of seedlings.

While 'Elegans' is officially a clonal cultivar (meaning they're all supposed to be the same, as with all hosta cultivars), in reality there were lots of 'Elegans'-like plants (previously identified as H. sieboldiana 'Elegans'), in truth there were certainly a number, perhaps dozens, of look-alikes in the trade, such that it's better to think of 'Elegans' as a seed strain. You must have a prolific one, both in growth rates and seedling vigor.

my version ... was that way back in the day.. it was thought that elegans was a species ... and came true from seed ...

it wasnt.. and it didnt ...

and by the time they figured that out.. many vendors were selling rogue seedlings.. all under one cultivar name ...

i have no clue where i got that from .. lol ...

Lucky you! I would dig them and either plant them elsewhere or give them away to friends or trade them for other plants I wanted. They look very healthy.

Many would be happy to have seedling to relocate/share /trade. Since you find them problematic just remove flowering scapes before they go to seed. Dig out of place seedlings before they get any bigger.

I’ll reiterate what Laurie said, dig out the ones you don’t like now. It’s a beautiful entry and some of your volunteers may be where you’ll enjoy them, but keeping rockwork where it belongs is way better than redoing it.
