Short of a DNA test, your plant will always need the NOID label, unfortunately (or fortunately!)

In orchids the lip is a modified petal, so this mutation occurs in nature from time to time.

Apart from growing orchids from seed, the other process is to produce copies

(mericloning) many, many copies and sometimes things go wrong.

Sorry about the link, your problem is that mass marketed orchids rarely have names

whereas this mutated Oncidium Sharry Baby was purchased from an orchid nursery.

Just google Oncidium Sharry Baby the view the "normal" flower.

I have the same one which was a Home Depot rescue. Mine is nearly always in bloom and has had up to 4 spikes at a time. Very easy Phal. Enjoy!

Wow! Thanks everyone for all the info! I had no idea peloric Phals existed. It was the only one of its kind in the store, so it really caught my eye. Glad to hear it is a heavy bloomer and easy.

Bob, it depends on the the state of the peloric mutation. If the form of the flower is destroyed all qualified judges will ignore the plant. If the lip colour is spread to the petals and the flower shape is still good, no problem.

Just to confuse things a little more, Dannie's plant could also be described as a Harlequin Type Phalaenopsis and as far as I know Judging panels are told not to expect the blotches and spots of colour be the same on each flower.

It doesn't matter all that much about winning prizes at shows, If the plant grows well, blooms often and the owner likes it all is well.
