Looks like a deformed potato to me

Its too big to be a potato. It is about 12cm in diameter at the bottom and 15cm-ish tall

It definitely feels like some form of root. So it cant be a gourd. I will see if i can cut it open.

That background material in the photographs looks like the copy room in an office. Not a classroom or laboratory.

Is this for a science class? If so, then you should be applying your knowledge of the scientific method of solving a problem. Perform some experiments on it--use your senses, and your knowledge of the natural world. No one here can see, hear, smell, taste or feel that object to give you a good answer.

Reference for your homework's footnote: I worked on a potato farm that sold their potatoes to McDonald's. The big ones like this go to McDonald's.

Think about it and I'm sure you'll remember eating French fries that seemed awfully long, too long to be from a potato you could buy in a grocery store.

Looks like a potato, a regular rock, or a geode rock {geode rock has crystal formations inside of it when you crack it in half, and they can sometime come in wonky odd shapes like your object is}, a bulb or root of some sort such as celery root. Where did she get it? Any other clues? When you find out can you please post here & let us know? Now you have me curious!

Potato, celeriac, yam, or some other root vegetable. If you are not allowed to cut it, could you at least wash the dirt off it please? We want to get a good look at it. Please post back too, you have got me curious as well!

My initial thought, looks very similar to celeriac root. I have boiled them with potatoes and mashed them. Subtle hint of celery to the potatoes. YUMMY! (make sure it's not pithy!)

Yes! Pithy is bad in veggies and weird lumpy roots!

But pithy can be great in other things! Let us know the results of your testing on the "potato". No need to be pithy when you report back. ..... :)
