I'm not sure I can see a "gray" sofa, but if it is the 3 seat sofa on the wall, then I would go with another piece. Reupholstering would pluck it up...but the "slouchy" style isn't working with your other "crisp" furniture.

You should think about floating your furniture or grouping them so that you have conversation areas. This can be done with area rugs with furniture focused around the rug. Most people believe their furniture must be "touching a wall"...which it doesn't. You have a tremendous amount of space that is sitting "open" - unused and alienating.

Floating the furniture (moving it away from the walls and bringing it into closer proximity of one another) is a great way to do this. The bare wall above the slouchy sofa is in need of large art with some great colours. Try shopping for wall and rug art at the same time.

First, we need a clear shot of all four walls. Second, Hoot and Cancork are exactly right. Pull your seating off the walls so chairs and sofas and benches relate to each other.

If you don't need that much seating, try eliminating the "slouchy" sofa altogether along with the tables you have with it. You've got a nice minimalist aesthetic going here, but you need to take it all the way.

After you get the furniture arranged, you need some BIG art. This one is 7' long. It might not be big enough.

With only two pix, your space is hard to read, but I'd eliminate the rug, two coffee tables, slouch sofa and all the lamps. If the bench on the rug has removable cushions, you might use that as a coffee table. If they can't be removed, look for a clear acrylic or bent glass coffee table with contemporary lines. Then bring the other pieces off the walls to float in the center on a large area rug that picks up on your minimalist direction. Place the matching striped chairs and the sofa/daybed in an "L" so the chairs face the large window and the sofa/daybed is perpendicular to them. That way the view outside can be enjoyed by all the seats in the house. Look into a sisal rug for some texture. You might top it with a brown faux zebra rug. Try at least one arc floor lamp to hover above the coffee table and a pair of slim and tall table lamps.

Dear all, since june 2013 i have come a long way. We moved in the new house in jan 2013 & with 2 toddlers i was finding it overwhelming to come up with the furniture placement which would really connect with us. Thankfully i have done a little more to the room as you can see. I am still looking for a nice sizeable art to go on the wall behind the stripped sofa. Thanks a lot for helping. What you guys say now?
