Garden extensions

last modified: 8 years ago

I found a series of garden pictures showing my front garden through the years. Thought you might enjoy the transformation and maybe for new gardeners they can see how much you can adjust a garden from year to year.

First I tilled and amended only the area in front of the azaleas. I still have that dianthus (pink plant) but it's now in my fence garden.

It gets mostly filled with annuals as I consider my choices. I still have many of the perennials -in completely different places in the yard. I refer to this year as the year of the monster marigold as they became huge!

At some point there was a series of tiny extensions. 2013 - 2014?

Then, a larger extension almost all the way except left a tiny bit of lawn in 2016 (lawn smothered in fall 2015). I wanted space for peonies. Looking out the house from a window you can see the garden getting sparser as it goes towards the street.

Picture late Spring 2016

Fall 2016 finally smothered last bit of lawn. Still haven't quite filled in that last bit. Corners are special - I'm still thinking.

Picture midsummer 2017. Taken from front stoop. I think the only plant orginial to the first year and still in the same place is the lavender behind the red/orange daylilly. Everything else was bought later or has been moved elsewhere.

I've seen a few garden progressions from a few posters. Anyone care to share?
