Thought my Clematis Diamantina was dead.

I've never had luck growing clematis. Tried the single bloom varieties several times over the years, but it just didn't like me, or the Texas heat every home I tried it in. Well, the one I bought last year and am training up an old ornamental door "trellis" not only survived our hard freezes this past winter (and in a pot even), but it was covered with huge blooms last week. I'm so pleased! It should take off this year nd get higher up the trellis. It's perched in front of an artificial rock "creek" that drains off water from our sump pump (French drain that keeps our basement dry) toward the street out front. Planted by the fence with my Don Juan rose, so it looks real pretty on that end of the patio. :)

It looks beautiful. Glad it didn’t die on you. I purchased two today at Lowe’s. Excited to grow it. Your vignette sounds beautiful. I hope you post pics when it blooms again with your rose. Judy

Nice, and clever trellis idea.

I can't tell how large the pot is, but unless it's quite large (such a half whiskey barrel size) it may need to be potted up relatively soon. I am often amazed by the size of the roots of clematis.

The planter is around 11" deep x 20". I figured It would be OK in that for two seasons. But I'm sure if it continues to look this good, and grow more, I'll probably just shovel up the rocks the pot is sttting on and set the root ball right into the ground. May even do that later in this season when it seems to have stopped blooming.
