Yes, yes, and more yes! Comfortablity is an absolute must for me I work 6-7 days a week and when I get home sometimes I fall asleep on my couch I definitely need something that’s equivalent to a bed but less bulk

Im not sure how long the wall is but the current sofa chaise couch I have is 89” and the wall has like a good 4 more inches to it. I was unable to find a floor plan to this place. Sorry but I’ll keep looking. It’s an old building built in the late 70s.. my stove looks 70 ish ( I did the subway wallpaper backsplash myself)

Looks about late 70's...nice improvement on the backsplash... I so remember my first rental...both fun and difficult. :)

Maybe you could take a few more photos (from each corner) and get out a measuring tape for the walls and floor we're working with?

For example, would the sofa work on the other wall?

I'll poke around online in the mean time for sofas...what color is the chair? Dusty pink-ish? Gray would be lovely with that...dull maybe, but lovely anyway.

Can you take a better, closer photo of the rug?

The other wall has a window where my tv sits. I’ll have to get back to you with the measure of the walls when I find my measuring tape.. I’m really big on thritfing and building my own things, and up cycling, not really into buying things unless it’s couches, lol. Excuse my apartment, still trying organize this place and spring clean since the move.

Could you flip the space so the couch is under the window or is that wall shorter?

There may be other possibilities for placing this or any other sofa elsewhere. Take a photo standing with your back to the mirror wall so we can see the rest of the space opposite the wall where the mirror is. We know you just moved so we won't comment on stuff being all over.

--Under the window might be good place to locate the sofa and facing a long, low media piece for TV and record player across the entire wall where the sofa is now.. That would make the room seem less cramped since you could get rid of the TV cabinet and record stand.

--Depending on what's across the mirror wall, you could possibly float the sofa so that it faces a long, low media system. But we need to see the entire space.

For now, don't think much about whether you're boho, or Scandinavian style. Think about streamling what you have and making everything work comfortably first in the space you have. Right now you have a lot of pieces in a small amount of space. Sometimes that choppiness makes you think something like a sofa is the problem when the real problem is having too many things to look at.

Since you said you know how to build furniture, consider making a long, low storage piece that will fit across a wall to replace multiple pieces that break up the space too much. Everyone will help you figure out a way to place the TV so it doesn't block windows. Blocked windows will make your space look and feel crowded.

The wall is a tiny bit shorter. I used to have the space Flipped before but didn’t like seeing the couch to my left straight away

but i may try to flip it once I buy the couch.

I like the couch where it is because so when you walk in place you can see more of the room set up than just the TV! TV will become the focal point, plus glare..

Yeah across the from the mirror is a tiny room for a dining area and a window definitely not enough space for a couch or anything.. Unless I’m not trying to eat lol, I could possibly put a the tv there. Indeed I have a lot of stuff like the sofa table and the big sofa but I’m sure if I can eliminate the two, it will be better . The picture aren’t really doing the space justice.

Blocking either window with the TV in such a small space doesn't work. Do you really want to walk in the room and see a big dark screen in front of a window? Windows extend visual space in a room.

A new sofa with a slimmer profile and lower arms placed under the window would look very inviting when you walk in. "Come sit down." Long low media shelving, or a thrifted long console, for the TV and record player stand on the wall where the sofa is now would put those out of immediate sight and eliminate two big pieces that take up a lot of room. Having a sofa table in such a small room means you're losing at least a foot of space. Fewer pieces mean you can get creative with your art on the walls over and around the TV/Record player setup and on the mirror wall. Less is more.

I don’t mind the tv blocking one of the window especially near my door because my apartment building is kind of closed off at the roof. By that I mean there’s another unit directly across (like extremely curious close, 2 arms away kind of close) when my neighbors walk to there unit, they pass by mines. I’m kind of a private person and don’t want anyone looking into my space unless I invite them in. 9/10 this window would be closed for security reasons. The other window is free because it over looks the community pool. Just Incase you may wonder, I’m on the third floor :(... I agree with less is more, the sofa table can go and a better sofa with little minimal arm rest is definitely doable. I’ve already moved the chair to my room to open up the space.. see I’m moving in the right direction :)

check out Macys. I have this couch ina custom configuration and I love it. it comes in many sizes and colors and is affordable. I have another Macy's couch in my basement for 7 years and it has held up to lots of lounging very well

Normally I would say no no to online couch shopping, but if you read the return policy, you have a month and they'll take it back if it's in new condition (minus shipping which is 50 dollars...) Plus the reviews are positive for me...

Looks like it will wear well and, over time, look get to looking vintage-y...

Do you have an Ikea near you? I like this one also...You can tuck it into the corner, but the one end is open so that it doesn't look so crowded. You could nap on it or use the end for a tray to eat or work or whatever...(kinda like the yellow for your room, but the blue is great, too...) My daughter had an Ikea couch and the pieces screwed into each other but you would have to check on this model..

I think this coach in a sage green, picking up what looks like that colour from your rug, would be excellent in your space! Also, get some through pillows in bright contrasting colours to accent and brighten up the room would do nicely. Bright green pillows with different patterns and some solid coloured, maybe beige, pillows should work nicely.

I personally find almost all of IKEA's couches to be uncomfortable. Not great for your main sitting area.

Leather I found after purchasing a huge Sectional that’s it’s always cold feeling to the body and summer you stick to it . Never again but they do look nice .

@pennydesign: Sorry, maybe they've gotten better? We were looking for a couch about a year ago and went to IKEA and they were all hard.

If you have an IKEA nearby, you could go try them out.

Just saw this in an article about an Ikea storage/TV console and remembered your Dilemma. Not that you have to have that console, but the layout is so good as well as the gallery wall that minimizes the TV. This is assuming the sofa goes under the window and faces the TV.

We don’t have an ikea here, but I do shop online all the time. Too scared to buy another furniture (couch) online though. bought one and regretted it 1 week into it. Unfortunately, I’ve never even been into an IKEA store and I’ve heard it’s a pretty sight to see.

Well, think about the blue velvet returnable one...I know it's a pita...and I do get the trepidation.

For heavens sake use your money more wisely than searching for the perfect couch! I’d put your couch on an angle — get it out of that corner hole — put a plant or arching light behind and do what you need to with the pillows to make it inviting. Sweet small chairs will make it a great place to gather. You can do this!

The above are all lovely..they have narrower arms for maximum space...they're nice. Nothing spectacular to be honest. Are you looking for gray?

The only "advice" I have that you may want to consider is that when you lay down (or have guests sleep on) a sofa with 2 cushions...that is where your bum falls. Right in the gap.

Not trying to be negative, but I tend to look at things in more of "what would I hate most about this..." or "what's the worst that could happen". If I'm okay with the answer, I'm in.

I value your input. The couch pictures are more for the design aspect more then color. All they colors everyone suggested are something I’m very interested in. I’ve liked what everyone is showing and suggesting. I have confidence that all your minds would finally help me solve my couch obsession and fix this dilemma. So I say, keep them coming because what I had been doing before, doesn't seem to be working.

Thank you everyone for your ideas and input. If you have more please feel free to help me out :) I literally just sold this couch like a couple of hours ago. I’m ready to make that change. I’ll be back on here next time with the final results:)

One last comment. The couch you have/had didn't work because it was too oversized for the room. A new couch won't solve your other problems--too many different kinds of stands and small pieces, etc. Streamline everything so you have one long piece that takes care of the TV and your records and record player. Check Craigslist for "console" and get a good long one or make one. Then use the walls for your creative expression. Good luck!

Okay I'm going to try once again to persuade you to something like this..

It's from CB2 if there's one near you. You would need to go give it the nap test, but I really feel that this can be made up as a bed.

Open on one end will help lessen the overwhelming feeling of sofa in the room

ONE long cushion so nobody falls down the cracks.

And yes...once the sofa is pinned down, then you can work on the rest of the room..but it's a big purchase, so don't rush...

Guess what guys! Im back! Here’s an up date on what I did to my couch dilemma and space. I bought a west elm apartment size couch but decided to buy sofa covers to change up the style . I’ve DIY some more things and ordered some prints from society6 to help my room but I’m pretty happy with the turn out thus far.
