This latest weekend storm that was forcasted missed me in monmouth county. I got a little drizzle in the morning yesterday. Today I got outside and transplanted some shrubs. The soil is heavy and moist but not too wet to dig, although I took care not to walk in the bed or compact the backfill and planting hole. I noticed a lot of the coneflowers are growing already, the creeping phlox is starting and even a clump of lupines is coming back. The forcast is looking more like spring this week, finally.

This was posted on my facebook. "It is a nice winter we are having this spring". What ever happen to global warming?

Well thank god the april sun prevented the stupid snow from falling on us this weekend. There might be another snow shower in the next 2 days though. But you already transplanted some plants? Here in bergen county it is supposed to fall 25 degrees tonight.. is that even safe for the transplants? I'm planning to start all my planting later this week

Yeah its safe for me because these shrubs are still dormant, and were already planted in my yard, I just moved them 8ft. I wouldnt plant anything that is tender and activily growing yet. Bergen county is far enough north to get hit with all the snow from that jet stream pattern, whereas I have been closer to the rain/snow boundary during most of these storms (I got a lot of both).

Looking at our gardening journal for this time last year we had already mowed our lawn which now looks like moss. We had opened our stream and took the nets off our koi ponds and started feeding our fish after a long winter. With the exception of a few hyacinths and crocus emerging it looks like winter!

It was spring here for a couple weeks, now dry heat. It looks like its going to be a rough year for getting new things started in the garden.

Expect more seasonal anomalies is my forecast.
