Good grief - 240 emails today ........... that has to be the all-time record. DD has friends over for lunch today so I have a good excuse to veg out in my bedroom and catch up here.

So you are all probably in bed now, but that is ok, we can catch up later. Another cold and changeable day here today, about to drive DD up the wall I think as it is so hard to plan anything when at 7am the sun is shining in a clear blue sky, by 9am it is raining and by 11am it is fine and sunny again but everything is so wet it makes so many places impossible to go.

Astraea - you mentioned (waaaaay back) the top of your foot above your arch was hurting, this is where I get a lot of pain too and discovered many years ago I can't wear flat shoes. I was in total agony one time, could barely put one foot in front of the other, had x-rays done but nothing could be found. Then, after a week of agony, I happened to put a pair of shoes on with about 1 1/2" heel and the pain instantly went and I was walking normally. Dr. said it wasn't unusual, so I've kept to a little heel since or well contoured gym or walking shoes.

Jayme, while it is nice for women to get maternity leave and the consideration that goes with it, it definitely should not apply in a teaching situation - and definitely not for littlies. I remember once, many years ago now, we had one teacher start the year very pregnant and only lasted a couple of months, not even one term. She was replaced by a teacher just back from maternity leave who made it to the end of 2nd term before she decided she couldn't cope and took more leave. The first teacher was due back for 3rd term but changed her mind at the last minute so the kids had casual teachers for weeks before a permanent one was found to finish off the year. Kids were only 4th Graders and they just did not recover from it all and the poor 5th Grade teachers really copped it bad trying to sort them out. Mind you the original teacher lived locally and soon found out how unpopular she was and never applied to come back to the school again. I don't think any teacher who behaves like that can call herself dedicated, they are only doing it for money.

Phew, finally got to the end of today's chat and a HUGE WELCOME to Anna. Cooking is definitely what I need, I am soooooooooooooooo bored with food, I wish someone would come and cook something for me every day. I'm over the meat and 3 veges of the past, to the point I can't even handle plain veges, as much as I love them, they just have to be spiced up. Summer is great when I can eat them raw. DD cooked the kids a stir fry the other night so am going to try doing that tonight.

Bobbi ????- LEADER of the pack???? - hahahahaha - I'm thinking RINGLEADER????

We got the news about Gandolfini about 5 hours ago. Quite a shock at 51. I only watched about 10 mins of the first episode of that show, the language got too much for me. I honestly cannot see the point of using *F* 6 times in every sentence!!!!!
Delicious, how was your stir fry, olldroo? James Gandolfini was very talented, he had a great presence on Broadway and was apparently a very kind and gentle man despite his size and outward ferocious look. While the sopranos had the most appalling language, and I can tell you, living on Long Island, in manhattan and in New Jersey, that that's about par for the course with a lot of people, especially the type he was portraying, that the level of acting on the show was pretty superb. Guess you can't portray that life and those people without all the filth and violence. Too much testosterone!!! Did you ever have a show called Deadwood on in Australia? It was like Shakespeare with filthy language set in the gold rush. That actor who played Lovejoy in the UK, Ian Mcshane was in that, what a lot of filthy language in that, but I still found it riveting. Maybe it's me with filthy mouth!! ;) they used to film Lovejoy in Long Melford and around that area in Suffolk. I have family over there and it's very lovely. That's one of the reasons why we bought out house here in NJ, it so reminded me of that area the first time we drove up to look at it. Love at first sight!! Which of course ends up being very expensive, as you would do anything to make it happy and perfect!!
Glad you're having fun with your family visiting, get as much rest as you can, when you can. Stay warm and rest those feet! Oh, and EAT YOUR VEG !!!
    :)))))))

Ringleader! Moi? Doubtful! Head troublemaker, maybe!

Anna, red sauce if you have one? Or is it acceptable to add some cream to a good red sauce to make it less acidic? That would be awesome! Thanks in advance :))
Roo - I hope flat shoes isn't the issue, because the couple times a month I wear heels (and medium ones at that), I wind up with toe cramps afterwards!
astraea, I had a problem with foot pain in the morning. I actually did try the Dr. Scholls machine and tried the shoe inserts. They offered a money back guarantee. Either it was going to help, or I got my money back. Found what kind I needed and bought them. After only a couple of days, my feet stopped hurting. And haven't hurt since. It said I had a low arch. Whatever it was, it worked. They last a long time and are well worth the $50 with no dr. visit! You literally have nothing to lose by trying them. :)
Handymam - wonder where there's a Dr. Scholls set-up like that near me .. I suppose I should start with their website!
Mine was in our local Walmart, but yes, they probably have a locator on their website.
    mforr, you there?
Astraea! I told you about the Dr. Scholls foot thingy and you dismissed it!
bobbi, have you used them? They really helped me!
Handy, the only shoes I ever wear are flip-flops, I don't think they make one for me!
Really? And your feet are fine?
I'm afraid to say this but no problems so far!
Good for you then! What are you up to today?
Nothing much, laundry, ironing and commenting on OLLD 6/20 !!!
Bobbi - I may dismiss it again now; $50 for "self diagnosis" is more than my medical co-pay, having a doctor check my feet out!
The closest location is a Riteaid Drug store with which I'm familiar. My theory is that you have to find out what's causing pain, and address that if possible, not just mask/temporarily eliminate the pain with an orthodic.
Olldroo, thanks for the welcome! I know what you mean, even as a chef I get bored and wish someone would come and cook for me, specially after a long 8 hrs on my feet dealing with food and students!! But I still have to cook at home. I teach my students how to cook and bake everything, but the funny thing is I don't eat everything, due to my health I follow a very strict Paleo diet for me, which has become a great learning experience because some of the baking ingredients don't behave the same as "regular ingredients" but I love it !. Did you enjoy the stir fry?
The only thing with that theory astraesa is that the orthotic may be the only thing that is going to help. Not sure surgery or therapy is always the answer. And the orthotics the doctor orders are hundreds of dollars.
Patty and, thanks and thanks to everyone that has taken the time to say hello if I haven't acknowledge you yet☺
  • 13 years ago
Any foot problems for you Anna? You are on your feet all day!!
Judyg I tried posting the recipe for you here but it won't let me. I'll try posting on a separate post under other discussions.
Anna, you just have to highlight the whole thing, right click, copy, right click, paste. It SHOULD work. Nothing guaranteed, of course!
I'm here handymam, crazy morning on last day of school! Astraea, you should definitely give them a try, usually most problems with feet are archbsupport problems. You should get an x-ray if you think you may have injured it though. Otherwise, dr. Scholls is great. Anna, I posted a bunch of stuff for your kitchen, just paint ideas, I certainly dontvwantvyou to build a brand new $80,000 kitchen. But the ikea site is definitely worth a shot. Tons of people go though the showrooms every day, bashing all the displays. They still look good and I know they only replace them when they put in another kind if kitchen display. Just saying...
Ollbobbi, I tried that ill type it again later.
Handymam - I have good insurance .. that's what it's for. Checking out Dr. Scholls insoles already assumes that's the proper treatment, which isn't any more accurate than a surgeon immediately assuming surgery is necessary, or a therapist assuming that therapy would solve the problem.

Two years ago I fell, spraining my ankle & fracturing a bone. When everything healed & I started walking again, it was summer, and I sometimes walked in sandals. Within a couple of weeks, that injured foot began to hurt terribly, and I could almost not walk .. I thought I'd reinjured the ankle. But going to the doctor & mentioning walking in sandals, he said it had nothing to do with the other injury, but that I'd strained my Achilles tendon from walking strenuously without support. I went back to my running shoes, and everything was fine. So I know the danger of assuming what seems like the most obvious cause of pain, but may not be.

Mforr. Do you teach or taking classes ?

mforr - not sure about Deadwood, doesn't ring a bell. You know what I hate about all the *F* words is when they use it in old time movies, even WWll movies - that word just wasn't used then. It is really quite laughable when they try to make everything else so realistic with the times. The worst word we could use growing up was 'bloody'.

I have a feeling we can't get all the Dr. Scholls products here like we used to be able to. They had some damned good stuff. I do agree with getting things medically checked out, Astraea, here we go to Podiatrists first rather than doctors, except in the case of injuries of course, but I do find checking out options first does help a lot more with diagnoses or can save a lot of time and running around having x-rays and tests done. If relief is only temporary, it will out in the long term. Quite often the Podiatrist will concoct an appliance first too to ensure it definitely will work on the problem.
Wow, ez, I had totally forgotten your toes with everything else going on. After 6 months that is not good. Do they think they will ever get it right for you? Trouble is, as we age too, damned arthritis sets in quickly with injuries. Have you had bone density testing done? That could make a difference too. Hope it gets sorted for you soon, nothing worse.
    I came home from the dentist & saw notifications for 6/18, 6/19 & 6/20!

Roo – After I’d been seeing an orthopedist after my injury, he sent me to a podiatrist, to follow up with what turned out to be the Achilles tendon strain. So now I go to the podiatrist, unless something is very seriously broken. Actually, the podiatrist does his own x-rays, which makes it easier for me; the orthopedist would send me to an imaging center .. so that would be 2 appointments rather than 1!
Handymam, I haven't forgotten you, 200 mails to get thru and delete, I'll be back to you soon :)
