Ariel, are you 9a or 9b? Do you have a greenhouse, because most of the edible varieties are tropical and won't grow north of 9b, and even then, they can freeze back easily. When I was further south, I had the yellow passion fruit, but I didn't like it. My friend had the purple one, and I liked that one. I always wanted the granadilla with red flowers and huge fruit, but never got one. I tasted one, and it was delicious.

All that being said, regular old native maypops are edible, but very tart. Most people use the fruit to make a nice summer drink.

I am in Riverview. I am supposed to be 9b, but you know how crazy Florida weather can be, lol. I would definitley like a sweet one, but wasn't sure of which type. I am not sure I have seen the Granadilla for sale. I will have to shop around!

Granadilla won't survive where you are, I don't think. Riverview is close to the Gulf, so that's a moderating weather influence. They're hard to find this far north. Mostly, they're sold in Z10 and above. They're pretty easy to propagate from cuttings, so maybe someone will be willing to send you some when they start growing well.

Ariel if you live near Melbourne the brevard rear fruit council/tropical fruit club will be having the open to the public sale April 28 at the Melbourne auditorium and they usually have passion fruit and only the kinds you eat.they will also many other edible landscaping

Ariel, if you want to try to grow them, you can do seeds. A lot of varieties out there and they can take some cold but not a freeze.

My favorites are the banana passion fruit, it will not do well here because the humid weather.

Granadilla is good for fresh eating and there are different kinds.

The purple one is also good for fresh eating after the skin wrinkles.

All the passion fruit vines have beautiful flowers and are easy to grow and some can get invasive.

Hi! I've had lots of passionvine, but only edible one was the purple one, which I loved. In Riverview, you are not too far from Tropical Fruit Society of Sarasota which has an annual sale here in September. Lots of vendors come to this event at the Philippi Mansion.

(I had to edit because they changed their name. Used to be Sarasota Fruit and Nut Society, but the nuts formed their own group :)

Oh, hell. I just looked it up. They moved their event to February. Good website, though.
