Mystery Catt hybrid

This is the first flowering of an orchid I bought 18 months ago tagged as a Brassavola cordata. Turns out it was mislabeled by the nursery but seeing the results I can't complain! The single huge flower has a wonderful fragrance detectable during the day but is much stronger at night - reminiscent of jasmine without the sweet note, deep and complex. It's been a vigorous, easy grower on my north-facing windowsill in Sydney (Australia) tolerating my novice grower mistakes with aplomb.

Googling suggests it could be a Bc Saint André but without a tag I guess I'll never know...

Might be B. nodosa x something else. Your chances of getting a exact id are small, especially if it is a seedling (raised from seed).

Added via edit, maybe contact and send a pic. to the orchid nursery where you purchased the orchid.

I think it looks more like a nodosa x trianae cross

Alas, it looks like this one will keep its mystique. The nursery replied with two possibilities: Brassavola "Pink Lip" (not registered as such) or C. Rolf Keowee x B. nodosa 'Clifton' (unflowered, can't confirm) but they can't give a positive ID.

Oh well, a rose by any other name will smell as sweet, etc. It's been fun guessing!

Thanks Ben, I'm inclined to agree. The striations in the throat of the lip made me think of the influence of C. dowiana on its hybrids, and it's one of the main species (along with B. nodosa) in the background of C. Rolf Keowee. I've asked the growers to update me if they happen to flower a plant from this cross.
