We have a small patch of 1000 square feet Bermuda Grass lawn in the backyard. It is thin and covered with weeds. Our new landscaper suggested us to re-seed the lawn.

Two employees from the Sprinkler World said to re-seed the lawn we would need 2-3 lb/1000 sqft seeds to cover the entire area. Filling low spots with dirt, and frequent water the lawn for a few weeks. If we want to start a new lawn of this size, we would need 3-5 lb of seeds. They cautioned us to avoid over-seeding.

The landscaper said he would kill the weeds first, till the soil, and mixed 30 lbs of seeds with fine sands to re-seed the lawn. He would bringing in soils to cover the lawn and water it afterwards. He has been doing excellent work since we hired him at the beginning of the year.

I wonder why the two approaches are different, especially the big difference between the amount of Bermuda Grass seeds required.
