Living Room Setup

when you open the right door the dining room is to the right and to the left is the living room. There is a small wall to the left about 3-5 feet (I don't know off the top of my head). Then the living room entrance is all open. It's about 21 feet long and 12 feet wide. Running parallel to the living room is a hallway facing a staircase. One end of the living room is a window. I feel like I have to put the TV on the other short side. The sectional will seem really far away though if it's close to the window -- like 14-16 feet away. Too far to watch TV. If I move the sectional closer to the other end then it's like in the middle of the living room. I could make the area to the left a little entryway with an entryway try for hooks and shoes and stuff and a bookcase. But this is feel too separated since the entrance is essentially 18 feet. The other option i can think of is putting the TV in the middle of the long wall and putting the sectional the other direction but then it's like all this space on the other two sides and you walk in to the total back of the sofas. I need help. Not sure what to do!!!

    Do you have a picture?

It's currently a mess due to sanding of the floors and what not. So I don't have a good picture but here are two pictures outside of the living room to get an idea of the wall and how big the entrance is. Does that make sense?

This is the entrance to it and the below one is the middle. Would that be the best layout or to change it about? This is old layout and not my furniture or anything like that.

I mean this in the nicest way - pictures with the sanding mess would be easier to visualize than pictures with the party crowd. (Congrats to somebody, by the way.)

I know...I'm at work and not at home to easily take photos. These were all I could find from social media.

Just take some pictures when you get home. It's very hard to conceptualize with these.

okay..how about this....this is how the living room was set up by previous owners..they didn't actually have a TV in here though. The bottom wall (in this area) is pretty much open with 3-5 wall on each side.

Do you have the sectional? If so, can it go or be split up?

I can see this room with the TV and a display in the middle of the long wall. two sofas or a sofa and two chairs facing each other, perpendicular to the TV. Use the short wall as another space, such as a library with three bookcases, as mini office area, etc.

You could do this if the sectional has to stay, moving the sectional toward the short wall, putting a sofa table behind the portion closest to the windows.

The first design is beautiful but my husband would feel weird not having at least one couch facing directly the TV. The second wouldn't work for us due to the small length of the smaller side wall sticking out. Would be way too cramped in that side. Anyone have good examples of living rooms with 1 side being something else...with an entrance that is semi open but still has some side wall on each side of the room

Given the limitations you described, I would probably put the TV on the long wall. My mom has a similar layout, but with a complete opening and she put the TV on the long wall with a sectional somewhat centered in the room and two chairs on the other side. Similar to the first layout if the fireplace was a TV. Or you could put the TV on the wall opposite the window like you said and have your sectional closer, kind of splitting the room up and leaving a small seating area by the window. Kind of like the second layout. I'm not a professional though, so there may be a better layout.

If the sectional is staying, I think that may be your best position. I don't see a way to rotate it where you can still see the TV.

I think that layout definitely works!

Yea -- I think I'm leaning more towards a sofa and love seat now so that it doesn't look as overwhelming.

A sofa and two chairs will give you flexibility.
