White crust on new Gardenia leaves

For the past several months I have been finding an unusual white crystalline crust on the new leaves. It is typically on the edges but is sometimes towards the center of the leaves too. The plant is generally healthy and blooms every other week. I don’t see any mites or insects and I monthly give it a systematic miticide. Just curious if anyone has had this and knows what it means? Or is it like the random dew that forms on the stems of orchids.
