I have a collection of tags also. I have a 3 strikes then out rule with plants. If I kill 3 of any plant I try a hybrid that looks similar. If that doesn’t work I move on to another plant. I don’t have 300 but I have lost a lot of tags.

Sometimes I think it’s better I don’t know exactly how many plants I’ve killed over the years. I don’t want to know how much money I’ve put on the compost bin.

A successful botanist told me if you are not killing plants you are not trying hard enough. Meaning you are just growing the easy ones and step outside the box...

Have mine in a box. Yes, many, many tags. Every now and then I take a look and remember some fondly.

Of the 300+, @125 of them were from a brutal one-time issue. I lost all but 7 of my orchids in 2009 while I was struggling with health issues and wasn't able to keep up with their care properly. Some type of fungal/bacterial thing took hold and just devastated my collection in about 4-6 weeks. I sadly remember taking trash bags full of sick/dead orchids to the curb one fateful weekend.

I remember someone once saying: You can't consider yourself an orchid expert until you've killed 100+. Based on that criteria, I'm an expert 3x over :)
