One point in favor of Option 2: shorter walk from refrigerator to sink. Also, less walking around the island.

Would definitely move cooktop.

There is a dining room through the small door.

I know cooktops on islands can be divisive here at times. This was done so the cook does not have to stare at a wall away from guests. The island was previously mirrored with a prep sink along the wall of tall (plumbing in place from previous space).

The area next to the oven was envisioned as a coffee and small appliance nook to help tuck those counter-beasts away a bit.

Please post a dimensioned diagram. I can't tell how functional the above plans are without numbers. It would also be helpful to know where the doors lead. Which one is the small door that leads to the DR? Which door do you come in with groceries?

Have you priced venting an island cook top? It's very expensive, even more so if you also need to have vent piping installed. It will be thousands. Moving the cook top to the perimeter will slash that expense dramatically: hundreds versus thousands.

If having a cook top on the island is your priority, make sure you budget generously for venting. Choose an island hood or a tall rising pop-up downdraft to remove cooking smells, grease and - if you'll have gas - combustion by-products. Pop-up downdrafts are generally noisier than hoods plus they aren't as efficient at removing smells, grease, etc as a hood.

btw, I used to have an island cook top. We moved it to the perimeter when we remodeled. I love prepping at my island, visiting with family and friends and having the cooking action and noise on the periphery. We rarely used our pop-up downdraft - it was so noisy and not very effective - but we use our hood regularly.

The cook is usually so busy at the cooktop that engaging in visiting while cooking is a foolish notion. And actually, in true southern entertaining, one has the food prepared before the guests arrive so the host/hostess can actually mingle and visit with their guests instead of working while they are there. There.....lecture over!!!

Actually, it is much safer for all if the cooktop is on an outside wall and can be vented outside.

Move the cooktop to the short L and move the ovens to the fridge wall if you must have a separate cooktop and ovens. That Bluestar oven looks amazing!

Agree with Sophie Wheeler "NONE of the above." This doesn't seem like a very convenient/practical kitchen plan.

What you've done is put a bar in your kitchen and left a corner dining nook at the two windows?

Have you built a wall of pantry/cabinets beside your refrigerator?

Are the two "windows" on the wall against which one end of your island sits pass-through windows to another room?

Is that wall against which you've placed the end of the island a load bearing wall?

Is there a reason your stove top is not in the countertop to the right of the ovens?

Respect the kitchen triangle: You want a clear path between the sink, refrigerator, stove/oven.

Note: Not a fan of a stove top in an island; also prefer a sink by a window rather than an island.

I’m no KD so won’t comment on plan other than to say that I have a cooktop in my island and I love it. I also have a powerful pop up downdraft vent to the outside that works quite well. I like being able to face my guests and watch my baby play while I cook rather than stare at the wall.
