Actually, it depends on the budget and what design aesthetic you want to go for. I like it to be somewhat concealed and would consider pocket doors or even sliding ones because I don't love the television being completely exposed. Perhaps these photos will help.

If you're keeping the television in that spot, I'd remove all of the decorative items. Just keep the tv and console. No need to decorate that area.
