Replanting a fig tree

Ok so my dad no longer can take care of his fig tree. I’m digging it out of his yard to plant at my house. It’s root ball is about 24 in wide and 22 deep. Would it be possible to plant it in a wine barrel on my deck? And should I wash out all the dirt from roots? Any advice would be appreciated
