Help! Dining room lift.

Hi. I have decided to add accent captain chairs to my dining table.
I am looking for a "pop" gentle or strong to accent the table set.
I cannot afford to change the rugs at this time.
I have added 2 " view in my room " photos with the chairs I am considering. A yellow pattern and a blue chair.
the other 2 pics shows the room as it is now.
please help me!

    I prefer the yellow.

I'm not entirely sure what you are trying to accomplish. I really like your room as is and I'm not sure that adding accent / captain chairs is going to make the room look better than it does now. I do like the yellow / green pattern chairs with the wall color and curtains but I am not sure about the combination of the chairs and rug. I think a lighter color against the dark rug would be best and pulling a color from the rug would be optimal. The light color i see in the rug is the color in the existing chairs, hence the reason I think it might be best to leave as is. If, however, you just want to get captain chairs then maybe find some that have a pattern with the same color as the existing chairs

Thank you everyone. the yellow is actually yellow and grey pattern not green.i do love my dining room as is however I was looking to add a bit of contemporary feel to it for a while.

Try removing the rug to get "a bit of contemporary feel" and you might be surprised!

Captain chairs are 'in' anymore. If you will check dining rooms on Houzz or furniture showrooms, they are going to be rare.

deco's idea to remove rug... yeh? and I don't see the chandelier relating to much in the room. Especially with floor tile nearby. Instead I'd try something iron or bronze with bit of the shine you like...

Or a transitional rug with enough black and light-medium neutral in it, sort of this [but is there a damask pattern in curtains?... ]

I love the yellow and grey print upholstery, so I definitely would add the chairs as accents. Perhaps you could have a chair angled across two corners of the room to bring a refreshing and colorful print into the room.

The most important thing you should change is the chandelier. That lighting change will make a huge difference. Here is one idea. A modern shape with new finish. Not sure of table size so fixture has to be sized for table and ceiling height.

the yellow chair has a nice line but the pattern doesn't work with the rug. I would look for chair to match the upholstery of you other chairs or change rug. I love the rug which is more clasic than the trendy yellow and grey chair.

Instead of new chairs, try removing the vase and runner on the table and replace it with a low plant in a simple planter. Also, remove the tie backs from your curtains and hem them so that they no longer puddle. Those two changes should make your room feel more updated but still suit your beautiful too .

These are host/hostess chairs. The Brits refer to them as carvers. This blue doesn’t go very well with the wood, but another one might. It’s quite common to have such chairs upholstered with a pattern on the outer surfaces, with a solid an the seat and seat back. Be careful of scale: this chair looks too big.

Let fuller drapes hang free. If you had 12-16 foot ceilings, you might get away with belting the mid-point.

Neither of those chairs really works in your room. And what will you do with the arm chairs currently there? You wouldn't use arm chairs anywhere but the ends of the table, so what exactly are you accomplishing? For a better use of your $$, consider having new curtains made--I'd have new panels in a linen or silk fabric, lined and interlined, hanging from a decorative rod and rings.

Also as has been mentioned, a new chandelier and a lower centerpiece on the table would add a lot.

Here are some ideas for you--note the simple natural fiber rugs that give a more casual vibe to a traditional dining room:

If you are looking for a color for the captain chairs, look under your feet at the oriental rug. It gives you plenty of choices. While I love the yellow print fabric, it does.not.go. with your rug. Move the rug or change the chair fabric.

I think your dining set is lovely and looks to be in good condition. . Furnishing a room piecemeal while on a budget might lead to costly missteps down the road.
I suggest you change the tabletop arrangement (it is way too tall) and light fixture first. Couple of hundred dollars at the most.

Then, ask yourself if you really dislike the rug enough to get rid of it eventually. If so, wait until you can afford a new one as well as captain's chairs and coordinate them.

Please shorten the draperies to get rid of the outdated and dust-catching puddle effect.

Sorry, but I don't think either of your choices for the captain chairs would add the interest you are looking for.

Those chairs are way too bulky looking with that table IMO the days when the master and Mrs. of the house sat in special chairs is long gone I love your set just the way it is. I would get a new light that one is really IMO better in a bedroom

i find chairs like that just so hard to move around... i say pass on the idea.

I have read all your comments and appreciate them very much. The intended chairs are not bulky only abt 5 " wide and 4 inches deeper than my current.
I do need a change as much as I love my set. After reading all your comments, I am considering changing the chandeliers to match the other iron work chandeliers we have in the home. Also searching for a similar chair but in a neutral tone to match the other chairs. ivory tone or taupe.
I would LOVE to change my rug however it is a Persian gifted to me 7 yrs ago by my hubby and he loves it more than I do. As he gives me carte blanche in our home no questions asked abt decor I need to give him this one..at least for 3 more yrs. I can't even go bare floor.
FYI the current head chairs, if we switched. would go temporarily in our home office / library.
Thank you. you are all awesome help

I love your dining room and agree that a new chandelier would be lovely......but before that I strongly suggest as was suggested above that you have linen panels made and put on a decorative rod; everything looks perfect except for the curtains and the chandelier; they do not have enough weight to balance what is in the rest of the room.
