i wasn’t expecting such baby hostas and I’m leaving on my big two week spring fling next week. I hope they make it, because Mama is outta here!

Very nice! It is surprising that most were smaller than you expected but they all look healthy. I am especially taken with Lemon Snap and Road Rage. You and I were really the only ones excited about Road Rage when someone posted it a while ago. I recall you ordering it and I am looking forward to seeing it progress. New intros are usually small because they haven't been in the growers hands for very long. Some sellers will tell you if they are 2 or 3 year old tc's or little liner plants. If a website doesn't tell you, then ask. Generous sellers such as Green Hill and Naylor Creek will send two divisions of the newer ones because they are so very small and new. Chris at Hallsons grows them out longer which is why they don't always offer the brand spanking new ones. Lemon Snap (a real looker!!!) is listed as a small to medium hosta at maturity. Does anyone have one more than 4 or 5 years old to know for sure? Probably not.

Lemon Snap sure looks nice! Love the reddish coloring on the stems. You referred to a bathtub wall... I am dying to see a wide shot of this wall! I have an idea of what it may look like, but if you have a photo from last year when the plants were all growing strong, I would really like to see a pic of the tub wall!

I think I have finished building my garden with this project. Just refining it will take the next three years. Maybe by then I will also have figured out how to make my hostas grow bigger.

that's a big project!..it seems like the hostas growing in a tub would be safe from voles, rabbits, and slugs..I hope they do well for you..I think some elephant ears would look nice with the hostas..and their big scale would look great in your tubs..

Unique comes to mind...Do you make drainage holes in the tubs or is there only the original drain? I've seen old toilets used as planters, but never whole wall of tubs. Fun!

Ditto to Babka's question re additional holes drilled? Cool idea and great use of retired bathtubs. A creative mind, Kathy! :-)

Did not drill any extra holes and I’m not irrigating them. So far I’ve used them as Hosta holding beds. Anne, elephant ears is a great idea. They already have some ostrich ferns. The view down the hill needs to be softened.

Cool! Thanks for the pics. There's a restaurant in Fort Lauderdale called "Le Tub" and they have lots of plants and tropicals in old bathtubs and toilets around the parking lot and entry. A very quirky place for sure, but I like unique places like that. Google it if you want to see what I mean.

Le Tub website said he built it out of flotsam and jetsam gathered on his ocean side walks. Anyone ever seen a tub in the sand?
