Help Me Select Decorative Pillows

I've just bought some decorative pillows and some decorative jars. I need to buy one more set of pillows. Etsy has some great pillows, but I can't seem to make a decision. Here are pictures of the living room followed by pictures of the three pillows that I like.

New pillows

New pillows

I need pillows for these chairs. I want to go in a blue direction to pick up the rug and the Chinoiseire lamps and jars on the mantle.

The mantle jars

Here are the candidates for pillows in the chairs.

#1

#2

#3

Which one would you select? You can say none if you have a helpful alternative.

Thanks.

I like number 3. Have you considered a lumbar pillow? Also, perhaps less of a pattern of more of a really tight pattern would go with your rug.

Check out these and some others on pottery barn.

Oh boy, any way you could throw those on one of the sofas so we can see them with your rug?

I took a photo of how I used decorative pillows on my chair. Maybe it could be helpful? Ignore the large cream rug.... it is temporary.

Here are a couple of others from Pottery Barn.

These are custom pillows from sellers on Etsy. So, I can't throw them on the sofa. I can order any size.

Here are some additional pillows that I have considered.

    #4

First what a beautiful space you have. Blue and yellow is such a wonderful classic color combination for decorating and always looks fabulous. And I'm a huge fan of Chinoisiere jars and plates. I use them all the time in my drawings.

I'm inclined to say you need not 2 pillows but 4. At least one more for the sofa and one more for the love seat and then two for the chairs. I'm saying that because I really feel you need to pull the blue over to the sofa and love seat too. You can easily have one pillow just on one side and it will work nicely. If you go that route, I'd pick #3 and #4.

While I love 2, I think 3 and 4 work better together. I particularly love that both have that Chinoisiere feel to them and both are bold patterns but will not compete with one another. #3 has a more "closed" feel to it and #4 is more "open".

I think #1 is perfect as it will bring the tones of the blue lamps and the ginger jars to the other end of the room. Your rooms are lovely and well thought out.

I don't have any blue in my home but I came across this pillow whilst looking at some for you. I doubt you would want it but I LOVE IT. GREAT PILLOW

    Yayagal,

It won't work for me, but that would be a great piece to build a room around.

I like #3. It ties in the gold (yellow?) color nicely. I would also advocate bringing a pillow with blue to your couch and loveseat as well.

I like #3, especially with your blue and white pieces.

Love the embroidered collie pillow : ) .

    PS beautiful rooms!

I like pillow #3. Your house is really pretty.

Here is one other possibility. I worry that it might be too fussy.

    It's Ralph Lauren's Nanking.

I clearly need more coffee and not to be calving (which keeps you up all night). I should have written that my preference is for #1, in the first group of pics. I still do like the collie pillow and the rooms, so I'm not totally addled. I just can't count : ) .

I like your latest choice, homechef, but it seems to echo your blue and white pieces a bit too much, if that makes any sense.

Homechef59...your kitchen is wonderful and leans a bit towards farmhouse...I would change up your lamps and vases and add more of a casual pottery feel would be nice mixed with your traditional furniture and rug and help it be more cohesive with your kitchen...

homechef, if you're still looking for some other possibilities, this Etsy seller always has a nice selection of blue pillows and I've been happy with her work,

I think that white lamp would be perfect in your space. I also think my top pillow choices for your room are #1 and #3. Do you know what fabric #1 is?

You’re right Becky. I think I actually meant that lamp would be perfect in MY space. I’m also a card carrying member of the SPEBW, and love the blue and white lamps. ;)

I would move the blue vases into the kitchen on the peninsula with big fresh green palms in them...if you have matching blue and white lamps I would put them on the counter under those big gorgeous windows flanking the sink..adding traditional touches with the farmhouse feel will help with the design flow...I would remove the curtains and add white roman shades with navy blue banding from the top window...your home is gorgeous OMG love the white painted shiplap!

Right now I can't change the curtains. It was a bad decision and I take responsibility for it. But, I've made DH move the curtain rods twice. I'm going to have to live with it a few years and then deal with it. It's called being married and not wanting to deal with the fallout.

HIWE, I've already got a large white lamp in the corner of the room on the circular table. It's the closest to farm house I'm ever going to get.

You asked for a better picture of the rug.

Seeing the rug up close, I stand by my original thoughts. :)

Can you push the curtain panels to each side and allow them to hang straight..it will give it a more updated style.... and go with the more casual fireplace, shiplap and farmhouse design. I like your white lamp but would add it to the smaller end table and move end table away from the window..I would move your wingback chairs and flank the fireplace with them...you have to much furniture in the room..can you take out the big round table?

Pretty rug. To me, Oriental and Persian rugs tend to function as neutrals : ) .

I wouldn't worry about the curtains unless you have a problem with too much light and glare from the uncovered part at the top. Otherwise it's a creative way to get more light into the room, which is never a bad thing.

You have a lot of good suggestions. As to your original question, i like #3 pillow but i would look for some with more texture. Everything tends to be smooth in the room. Add a pretty throw in the deep blue colors for additional texture. I might do a lumbar pillow on the sifa just to change things up a bit. Add a vase of flowers in white to the coffee table. A bit more white in a few accessories would be a fresher look. Hope that helps.

What a lovely home and the choices of colours are very nice indeed. From the top, I do like your 3rd choice. Thank you for the lol re "It's called being married and not wanting to deal with the fallout". I can relate.

    having fun,

Thanks for the suggestions. I really like some of the examples you provided. But, they also illustrate what I am running into. They have grey or taupe highlights in the patterns or the blues tend toward teal or denim. That's why I am hesitating about #3. I want a little gold or ivory to pick up the other colors.

I do like the Millbrook pillow that HIWE suggested.

I also don't want to go with anything that says farm house or shabby chic. I am a traditional girl with very traditional tastes. I looked at fabrics this weekend and didn't find anything that I liked better than #1 or #3.

Gathering all your blue and white vases and using them together will make them much more special and would look gorgeous in your kitchen.

use the navy blue and mustard gold only in your traditional family room....I would remove the tiger print pillows and add navy blue and White pillows onto the gold sofa add mustard gold lamps and large white vases on the brick fireplace the brick is to rustic for-the vases you have and they are to small...

Your comment, and then Home Interiors' post about removing the tiger print, reminded me of Maura Endres's Instagram, I can't remember if I mentioned her to you in another post or not, home chef. I know I've posted about her in this forum before.

    https://www.instagram.com/m.o.endres/

I think if one were to ask Maura, she would say not to overthink pillows on the sofa : ) . Just go with your gut...

I think there's "styling" a house, with blue and white massed on an island like a Ballard Designs or Enchanted Home photoshoot, and then there's decorating a house you live in, which is what Maura and, from what I can see, you do, home chef. And I think our homes should be decorated -- well and beautifully -- for the lives we live. Styling and staging looks okay in photos (or in houses with maids and housekeepers) but seems an awfully difficult way to live, and can look so artificial too.

Vases clustered on a counter or table are very common everyday design....of course the image with the vases clustered together are staged..but by pulling similar items together in a collection gives them a special spot that most can enjoy much more than scattered throughout a space...and how can you go wrong with blue and white vases in a white kitchen! Pillows are pillows of course have fun! They can be changed out for seasons or Holidays...the nice thing is they are not permanent...just keep in mind some contrast is good on a sofa no matter what pillows you choose....that is why suggested more white...:)

    Clustered art gallery

    vases clustered together with flowers

    book collection stacked

all great designs that designers, staggers, photographers and everyday homeowners love to incorporate into their homes:))

Yes, Home Interiors. I very much agree. There's an art to it, and done artfully, it's decorating and looks like a home that's lived in and enjoyed. Done artlessly, it veers toward the artificial and looks like a catalogue where no-one lives (or no-one could live, easily).

I really prefer number the third... Your house is beautiful, but I think you should have some accent flower and get maybe purple insted of blue. It could fit more with the beige. Look at those cushions here; they might be interresting in your sofa.

ok, removed, the two left still have beige though they have gray too.
