What happened with this Monstera? Looks like the older portions have rotted, possibly from overwatering(?) which caused rot but hard to say. If you have not done so cut all the brown away. The newest stem there with the leaves looks fine and you should be able to root that part easily. I prefer to root in good soil.....a nice loose mixture (add extra perlite and/or bark to some standard potting mix). You can put the plant stem into that, new roots will grow from the brown "nubs". Easy to keep the hole plant in a ziploc bag (in bright light but out of sun) until it starts to root. You can leave the top of the bag open a bit. Alternatively you can first root it in water and plant after some roots start growing.
