Leave them alone and let them grow. Those eyes will green up now that they can get some light. The first few leaves will look crunkly and misshaped, like a bunny chewed on them, but more fresh leaves will follow.

Years ago some people used to "hosta stomp" some of their plants just as they were emerging break off those first eyes and stimulate dormant eyes to sprout to get a fuller plant sooner.

I agree with Babka. And don't be too hasty in cutting off the ugly leaves. They can still produce food for the plant. Besides, it may not turn out that bad at all. Just wait and see.

Babka - thank you that is very reassuring. I will leave the plant alone and treat it the same as my other hostas keeping in mind those first few misshapen leaves are only temporary.

Oh I stomped them alright! Last week I inadvertently stepped on one of mine and created almost the exact same scenario. I decided there was nothing I could do about my own carelessness, so just let it be. Now, I don't feel quite as bad.
