I would say yes to the tile if she really hates it and has plans for changes down the road. But using the right products is crucial.

No to painting the wall paper. You would just be creating a mess that will require a lot of work to fix.

Removing tile and wallpaper doesn’t take skill, it is just time consuming. The only caveat is that you need to be careful so you minimize damage to the walls.

We removed terrible tile, touched up the wall and painted the backsplash area a bright color. It looked good and was perfectly serviceable.

Don't paint the wallpaper, it only makes the problem worse!!!!! This is a project she can tackle an hour at a time. Use a spray bottle with 1/2 hot water and 1/2 white vinegar. Soak a 3 ft x 3 ft area thoroughly, wait 5 or 10 minutes and scrape off. It is tedious but you don't have to do it all at once like when painting a room.

This is an easier way to get it off. Just stir 1 cap-full liquid softener into 1 quart (1 liter) water and sponge the solution onto the wallpaper. Let it soak in for 20 minutes, then scrape the paper from the wall. If the wallpaper has a water-resistant coating, score it with a wire-bristle brush before treating with the fabric softener solution. It's messy but pretty easy with this technique. Harley, maybe you could help her do it lol.

^Liquid fabric softener works like a charm. And you can buy a scoring tool (it fits in your palm and the underside is fitted with little spike-y wheels like you’d find on a sewing pattern tracing wheel) at a home improvement store.

I had the tile painted in my kitchen with porcelain paint. It is not a permanent solution, it eventually chips, but was an excellent temporary solution (5-7 years).
