Thank you to Val and all the Houzz members xiangirl, jensyen and unnamed others who donate seeds to Newbie project. I've since wintersowed 12 jugs of flowers (lavender, rose campion, scarlet flax, zinnias, etc) and am so excited to see what happens!

I've come a long way as I was a city girl who had a black thumb and was/is scared of bugs, lol. I started with getting rid of invasive weeds (j barberry, mugwort, garlic mustard, stiltgrass) then tried to get perennials, but I have a lot of ground to cover to replace the weeds. I realized that longer blooming flowers tend to be annuals, so now I am trying those and planting my own seeds I can get more flowers.

I am so happy to have found this community!

Welcome! Gardening is, I've found along the way, a learning experience. There was a time I couldn't grow much from seeds...Got a few germinated that made it to my garden and grew. Wintersowing solved that, but I also putter around inside (and out on the deck in late spring/summer) growing things in containers before they go into the ground.

Each year with gardening can be SO different depending on where you are, the weather, your soil, and MORE.

Hang in there and keep trying...So glad you have planted your newbie seeds and hope they bring you MANY blooms!

Thank you Val! So far I have a few poppy, cosmos, nasturtium, rose campion, hardy hibiscus, stock, marigold and nicotiana wintersowed sprouts. 25 containers since April 11 and I keep adding more!

Besides my seed flowers, I am looking at privacy screening evergreens and grasses and starting a hardy tropicals area!
