I was curious to see how the oakleaf hydrangea leaves look like when they are this tiny. Can you post a closer shot of the leaves? Do not worry if you can't; just celebrate next time you go to a coffee shop!!!

I tried this once, with other hydrangeas... but decided not to repeat it when the tiny seeds were even smaller than I had expected them to be! Hee hee hee. Congrats!

The first set of leaves is indistinct. The second pair has ragged edges but doesn't quite have the Oakleaf shape. Here is a zoom of a couple of pots.

I honestly didn't expect so many to germinate. I probably have space for 10 or so and could put some in my mother's yard. After that, I'm not sure what I'll do with excess ones if I have some.

Give them to garden clubs for sales, etc. One near me was selling some Alice Hydrangeas last year (too big for my yard).

The next thing I really need to do is thin them out down to 1 or 2 per pot. It just feels wrong to remove living plants but it will help the remaining plants to thrive.

I'm hoping these stay smaller since they are from 'Ruby Slippers' but I don't know how closely they will resemble the parent plants.

Yes, good idea. The 'babies' I got seemed to match their parent a lot but it would have been cool to see a weird bloom color come out or something unique.

I would keep them until at least they can put out a bloom. Not sure when to expect some in this case... 2 years maaaybe? ;o) I too have a RS by the way.
