why not rejuvenate it.. rather than coppice it????

this is an annually aggressive grower.. and if you cut it down ... then all the aggressive growth.. will be on top of the trunks you leave.. and sooner or later.. it might fall apart ...

It’s been left so long without pruning. It’s easily 15 feet with crazy shoots everywhere and very thick trunks. So tempted to lop it all off, but I’m too chicken. Lol. Just went out and cut off the worst offenders and will see how it looks as a tree form-ish this year.

I generally prune mine after they have fully leafed out. Less reaction to the cutting - fewer crazy long branches.
