Help! I need decor ideas for my kitchen. No the clock does not have to stay, shelves necessarily don't have to either.
*i do not like roosters or pigs in my kitchen

Could you back up and show the whole wall? We need to see what is below this space.

Have you already stored all of your plates, cups, pitchers, casseroles? How deep are the shelves?

We need to see the whole room.

Lol, about the roosters and pigs.

Do you specifically want ideas about how to stage those shelves? What is the context for that wall? I think the shelves are too close to the clock, though.

I like useful beautiful things, so if you don't plan on putting any of your plates on those shelves, I would take them down. Instead, put up some art that reflects your style, city or family.

    What is your style?
And while I don’t like clocks as decor in the home, a clock in the kitchen is totally appropriate, how else do you know for how long you have something on the stove?
I don’t like cooking with with jewelry on, and a watch just gets wet.

my kitchen is currently towards the end of a remodel as far as cabinets, counters, and backsplash goes.

the wall with the shelves has nothing there. I usually have a white folding table there for when I cook, my family comes over a lot so I do big servings and then set everything out buffet style

Are the clock and shelves to the right of the cabinets? If not, back up all the way and take a picture of the space in context.

(beautiful kitchen, BTW.) Are you tiling all the way up to the bottom of the cabinets?

A simple neutral idea. I think the art should fill a vertical rectangle space. It could be one large piece or four cordinating pieces.

can you show the wall and the kitchen in one pic? still trying to get an idea of perspective

in either case, the clock is hung far too high,,,you could lower it and remove the shelf below it. or remove everything and do some artwork. hard to say because I can't see the whole room!

What do you have? This is your kitchen, the shelves should hold your things. Do you collect coffee cups? Enjoy wine? Love tea? Bake?

panorama view. we havent decided if we are going to tile all the way up yet. the sign above the other cabinets will probably come down as soon as I figure out what im doing with my kitchen.

I love your space and love that you cook for family. Yes, you should tile all the way and behind the stove so that it looks professional. (I know you didn't ask all that. ;-) )

(Maybe not so many plates, just above the table level.)

You Don't have to do a theme. Kitchens can be hard to accessorize. I think a large single photo would look nice. A botanical might be pretty.

I know it looks like you're done with the backsplash in your kitchen, but as an alternative or accent border, you might want to consider an easy-to-install adhesive
approach for wall tiles or 3D panels that’s much less costly and time consuming, yet stylish
and enhanced with three dimensional textures. Sometimes the small details can
really make a design. Check out a few ideas here https://www.houzz.com/projects/1509556/wow-tiles-bold-unique-elegant

Chan,,,don't hijack someone's post with your questions. It's poor etiquette. start your own dilemma. artwork for what wall? lol s

The shelves look too skimpy to me. I kind of like the clock, but not necessarily there. I like botanical prints, food related, no message “art”.

Beth, this is Chan D's dilemma.

thanks everyone for helping me! and you all were very very kind about it! I will take down the shelves and clock, put up a simple piece, and throw a plant on the counter?

oops..sorry Chan,,,,how is that kitchen the same as this?? am I looking at two different spaces?

why is this posted? are you saying you want your space to look like this? it was unclear from the comment and I didn't look at the names.

its not the same kitchen. the last picture is a picture of a kitchen that is close to the same colors of mine, and I like pops of green. I was using it as an example of my style.

my house was built in 1956 and we are doing a whole house remodel. it has been quite the experience but we have enjoyed it very much.

ok,,that's where the mixup was. perhaps, "I like the look of how this kitchen is done" would have clarified it.

why don't you try some very neutral, monotone artwork or prints for that wall? it would give you enough of something for that wall, without looking too busy. similar to what tq just posted, above

    Hi ChanD-

If you want to hang up artwork you can look for depictions of fruit or vegetables.
I like vintage looking ones like the ones tqtqtbw showed above, and like the ones on the cover of Cook’s Illustrated Magazine.
Or you can find more modern pop-art versions of fruit and vegetables.
Or you can get plants and flowers, whatever is your fancy.
You can buy these or make them inexpensively from pictures from a calendar or from a book from a secondhand book store or royalty picture from the internet.
If you would like something a little more three- dimensional you can look for majolica on line. There is vintage majolica and modern reproductions. It doesn’t matter which, just get what you like. It can be all green with leaves all over, or leaves with fruits or vegetables, or flowers. They can be plates or serving pieces.

You can buy plate hangers and hang them or use plate stands and display them and in either case, still use them as serveware.
You might want to do a bit of cruising online and reading about majolica and looking at images before you invest.
A few pieces of majolica or vintage botanical prints won’t turn a modern or transitional kitchen country.
And speaking of investing, don’t spend tons of money on it. It’s not bone china or high fire porcelain and can chip and break easily.
It’s a lot of fun, I love it, but don’t go crazy with the $$$.

Another thing, if you live in an area where there are hurricanes, tornadoes, or earthquakes, please make sure that they are well-secured if you hang them, or cushioned in the cabinet.

You can also add green to your kitchen with green glass plates and bowls. These are vintage, too.

Some people (Martha Stewart) like to collect vintage jade glass plates and bowls and serveware.

Make sure the water in your area is not hard or putting these in the dishwasher can etch them unless you have a whole house water softener.

Another way to add green to your kitchen(and add life and energy and oxygen and purify the air) is to add live green plants.
A big bushy Pothos plant would look great as would a Philodendron. Coleus is great too and comes in many different varieties in green and red, green and pink, etc. You can also have several stems of Lucky Bamboo ( which is really dracaena) in an odd number, some straight, some curlicue in a simple vase or a glass vase with peoples or marbles at the bottom with water in it.
If you have plants in the kitchen just take them down and wash the whole thing leaves and all at least once a week. The leaves can collect dust and little spiders and you don’t want that coming onto or being blown into your food.
Are you planning to keep the shelves?
I use trays a lot, do you? If yours are attractive, you can put a tray or two on there and display it standing up and put something in front of it too.
For example, if your dishes are pretty, you can display a covered vegetable dish or a soup tureen. Even if they are just plain white you can still display them because their shapes are intrinsically pleasing.
    Hope this helps!
