They have become my new favorite orange. I am trying to focus my growing on varieties I can't get at the store. But it would cool to have a tree, for sure!

I hear they just randomly showed up in a navel orange orchard in Venezuela. They've been around a while but they have a distinct season so you have to buy them when you see them. I don't have one in my citrus collection. Nor do I have a Pomelo which is one of my favorites - I guess I could never grow enough of them so I grow others instead. I have a Washington Navel that took a while to mature but its fruit pretty much blows the socks off any other citrus.

I've got a Tahitian Pummelo in transit to me at the moment. It'll join my citrus collection of 3 lemons (Meyer, NZ lemonade, Santa Teresa), sweet lime, small Tango mandarin, 4 unknown citrus (mostly rootstocks I think) that I rescued from a shuttering greenhouse, in-ground Owari satsuma, and collection of citrus seedlings. Have heard that homegrown Washington Navels are indeed quite amazing!

It is surmised that perhaps one the parents of Cara Cara is a Washington Navel. I get as many Cara Cara as I can when they are in season. My Cara Cara trees arrived today. They are grafted onto Carrizo root stock, at least that is the info I got. I only have a small citrus collection. I brought my 2 Ponderosa Lemon Trees with me when I moved. Ironically in FL my house was in an old orange grove and I had citrus trees popping up in my yard, they were young and no flowers or fruit so not sure what variety they were. I should have dug up a few of the smaller ones. Thank you for the info.
