Thanks for checking out our project...We used 4 coats of interior sealer/finisher. The brand is Sikkens and we sanded between each coat.

Interesting, thanks very much for the response. I've heard of people using marine-grade finishing products for this kind of application, but it'd be nice to have an interior grade product that does the trick. Beautiful work, thanks for sharing!

Did you use cement board and a vapor barrier behind the fir, or just the fir?

how did you handle making the wood waterproof?
