Thanks, Aegis, Fortysven. I got a leaf from the Club, and it was labelled Sunkissed Rose. It has bloomed white blooms with a touch of green. I am wondering if it is one of the sports. It does NOT show pink or yellow on the bloom. I am just asking.

Hmmm. From what I . know it will just bloom to a solid color usually not as "pretty" as the original. Maybe they labeled it wrong?

A sport is anything that grows not up to a description. If you want to register a sport - because it is interesting and worthy - happens every once in a while - you go through the procedure Joanne just described.

This is a murky water - is it technically a sport if it is white and doesn't have yellow and pink in it? When the slight variation in the appearance even between the littermates becomes a sport?

Sometimes growers talk about a good line. I have a good line of Picasso because it expresses white fantasy, for example.

LLG will maintain a mother plant of Sunkissed Rose and propagate off it. You are so much closer to an original plant if you buy from hybridizers. You get one from another source - and it can easily be a leaf of a leaf of a leaf 50 times over - and the genetic drift can be significant. SO - Joanne is absolutely correct. Get it from LLG.

Not all people are obsessed with "blooming true". This "Sunkissed Rose" doesn't have any Sun or any Rose in it.. but it is still a pretty sturdy no-nonsense plant. You decide - to keep it - or to pass it to the people who will enjoy this sport anyway - wih or without a label.

Guys - I found the place for my sports. Post office. These people work very hard and process my ebay boxes - they deserve some blooming plants!

Hi All I do not care whether the bloom is true and will keep the plant. Right now it seems to have more than one plant in the flower pot. When in repot it in the near future, I will separate the,. If they survive and decide to bloom before October, some will be donated to the Church rummage sale. Someone will be happy to take them home.

Hi All, here is a photo of what was labelled sunkissed rose.

There are green highlights on the edges of some blossoms. I do not know how well this shows up. I think it is definitely Sunkissed Rose. Let me know what you think it's name is.

I think we can call it a sport of a Sunkissed Rose and let it be.

The shape of the blossom is correct, color is not. As you can see - leaves have some wave but not too much.

The intensity of pink and yellow changes depending on season - so there is a chance that Yolanda's plant will show some color in midsummer.

Hi Irina, Hi all, can I attach a name to this sport of Sunkissed Rose, and what name would I use? For example, I bought Bob Serbin from Bloomlovers, which has a red blossom with a white edge. When it bloomed, it was pink with a red star. Bob Serbin sports to Aca's Pink Delight. Doris Brownlie told me to label my Bob Serbin as Aca'a Pink Delight and call it a day. That's what I would like to do.

Yolanda, if you want a true Bob Serbin, may I suggest you buy it from Lyndon Lyon Greenhouse in New York. It is very attractive when it blooms true. I grew it for many years. It was my best, most reliable red. It was always true, bloomed steadily, grew to a larger size. In fact, it was one of my best growing and blooming violets of any color. Joanne

Joanne, maybe Doris Brownlie has one. After all she is married to John Brownlie, the hybridizer. Thanks for the suggestion.

For now, I am happy with the ACA's Pink Delight, although I lost the original plant. Her babies have not blossomed yet, but will soon.

I do not think there is a named sport of Sunkissed Rose. So - call it Sunkissed Rose Sport for now.

Yolanda, as the expression goes, "whatever floats your boat!" Bob Serbin is available from many vendors. It is a vintage plant that grows well, therefore, many people grow it in their collections. Enjoy!

Hi Joanne, Hi All, I only allow myself two to four new AVs per year. I have already received two from Bloomlovers. I get some from the Lakeshore African Vaiolet Club throughout the year, and that is how I got the Sunkissed Rose. Maybe in the fall before the snow flies and Bloomlovers cannot ship, I will order a Bob Serbin. I know that it is available through many vendors.

Secondly, I think I will label my Sunkissed Rose as Mock Sunkissed Rose. It will be enough of a name for know. I also give my plants names of fictional female characters, like Aunt Polly in Tom Sawyer or Scout in To Kill a Mockingbird.

I repotted my Sunkissed Rose, and it had five suckers which I potted up. None of them had roots, and we will see if they take. If they bloom, some will go to the rummage sale in the fall. Someone will love them.

I recall that Sunkissed Rose propagates quite vigorously.

Also, your plants might mature into blooming which more closely resembles it's description.

Hi All, at least here it is not hot. I have planted pansies, nothing else. Planting tomatoes, petunias, etc., will NOT happen until about May 24. Even then, there can be snow flakes in the air, and then it would be still too early. Hopefully this year it will not be too early. Winter was brutal. April 14 this year saw a snow lice storm that left everyone sitting at home since no one could go anywhere. Buffalo was shut down for several days. Most people in Toronto went where they needed on the following Monday. It will be some time before the summer heat comes, and then maybe my Sunkissed Rose will show different colors.
