May 2, 2018 Storm Check-in Thread

In case you're wondering - our place and probably HJ's survived tonight's storms. Personally, we listened to it pass from the cellar right over us after it went over RobinHill School (thanks Andria!!!) Bruce was in his fraidy hole too, but they also appear to have made it unscathed. He deserves it since he paid his dues a couple of years back.

Yes, I was the "Crazy Gardener" but it felt so good to be myself again. I ran out and raked thru the crabgrass taking seed amongst my onions before the rain hit!!!! AND enjoyed the thrill of yanking nut grass that would have surely been WAY worse after this rain......

Everyone else ok? Haven't heard any reports of severe hail damage so maybe gardens are ok?

I am okay in N OKC. The river rapids outside my door were racing their way to Lake Hefner for a while. I am glad to hear everyone is okay so far.

We are fine in Yukon and just got lightening, thunder, and lots of rain. Waiting for the next round in the early morning hours.

Last night's rain hit much of our county but missed us. This morning's early wake-up call was from the weather radio at 5:20 a.m. announcing a Severe Thunderstorm Watch, so I'm hoping for rain today. We have had a lot of thunder and lightning but this morning's rain also has mostly stayed west of us. Between last night and this morning, our Mesonet station has recorded 1.22" of rainfall, but at our house we've had about 0.07" so there's none of Lisa's river rapids here. This has been the pattern the last couple of months for the rain to slide by to our west, moving from SW to NE across the county but largely missing those of us along the I-35 corridor south of Marietta. It is getting old. My garden is dry.

Yes, we came through it just fine!

Trying to keep a few certain family members calm was the hardest part. That and trying to get a lab (Ace) to go in the cellar proved to be impossible! Even grabbing his collar only resulted in the collar being down there sans the dog!

We ended up with around 1.75" with another round on the way, so looks like no planting for this gardener today or maybe a few days!

I looked at my rain gauge before coming to work. I had almost 2 inches, and then it poured when I got to work. My garden should be happy!

Just a little noise, a little wind, and some good rain on the garden here. The worst of it missed us.

I am glad to hear yall are okay. I saw a little lightening here but it never got close enough to hear it or to get any rain

According to the mesonet we got .4". DD lives a couple of blocks from the mesonet site, but I am north east by about 10 miles. Daughter messaged the storms were raging. I watched the storm on radar. My son, who works at the airport, messaged there were strong wind and heavy rain. I heard thunder. A bit later it sounded like someone stood outside with a hose and sprayed across the windows...once. The door rattled once from the wind. I didn't hear any other rain last night. Thunder at 6 am and and a steady rain now. I put the plants I'm babying under the table last night, in case of hail, but I think the worst of the storm went around me. Glad to see those of you with severe storms are okay.

Near Tahlequah we had light rain showers during the night. I did chores, starting at 4:15 AM, watching a show of lightening to the North and West of us. By the time I was finishing, around 5:10 AM, the wind was picking up and I could hear quite a bit of thunder. It began to rain, very lightly. By the time I left for work (about 5:40 AM) it was POURING rain and the lightening show was spectacular. I got soaked, just making it about 25' from where I parked to clock in.

Last night I was congratulating myself on getting to bed early. But... I did run out to the garden and plant a few things! Then, as the clock was ticking, I also ran around, collecting my seedling trays with small plants, and putting them under cover. A gully washer, or worse yet, hail, would have destroyed them.

Nothing but heavy rain as far as I know. Our younger boy (very timid lab mix) does not like the boomers so he spent the evening glommed on to me. The puppy hasn't been through many storms and kept growling at the strange noise. The other 2 didn't care.

According to Emergency Management we had a tornado touch down on our road last night. Our road is less than three miles long, so I guess if it's true, it was close.

Now understand this it the same guy that argued it wasn't a tornado that ripped our roof off, two years ago. A video taken of the funnel less than a mile west and the twisted and snarled tree tops and limbs made it obvious to me.

We are fine. Everything looked okay this morning while I did a quick look while trying to manage the dogs in the rain.

Paula, I was worried about y'all!

We got lots of rain, but don't know the amount.

Beautiful heavy rain. I had to grab two containers that were drowning with overflowing water from the gutter, and GDW had to bring me a towel so I could come in the house. Our rain gauge says we got nearly 3.5 inches in the past 24 hours, although the Tahlequah reporting station was at 2.8 and Porter was less than that. There was no severe weather here, though the scaredy-cat under the deck thought it was pretty severe and didn't come out until it was all over.

Yes, we were tracking the storm last night, too. Glad to hear from you all and hope others didn't get damage.

Rain finally arrived here late this morning and it rained hard and fast. We lot power briefly, and lost the internet/WiFi all day---it still is out. Typical May storm stuff---roads flooded, people ran off the road into bar ditches filled with water, yada yada yada. I'm typing this using a cell phone (with one bar) hot spot, so it is incredibly slow. We got about 1.65" of rain and another round is expected to hit here around 5 a.m.

I'll be back online whenever our internet service provider fixes whatever is wrong.

I checked my rain gauge, I got about 2.10 inches in the last 24 hours. Dawn, I am glad you finally got some rain!
