I bought a very small Comtesse de Bouchaud last season. It was from Aldi, one spindly little stem. It grew to about 18”-24” last season and had a flower. I cut it way back to its first set of buds and a new stem is growing happily up the trellis, but the old stem is dead with no growth. I read a website that said to keep it cut back to 18-24” the first year to create a full multi-stemmed plant. Should I try to keep it pruned short this year? Has anyone else found this to be successful?
