can anyone recommend .......

I would like to add a daylily to my garden that is a peach color with a mauve eye. I have seen a few of these and love the color . Now that I am looking for one , I cant remember any names of the ones I have seen ......searching for a daylily with no name is a stinker. Can anyone help and recommend some ? The taller the better please.

Thanks for the suiggestions Sherry . I already grow real Wind but it is not the color I am looking for . Peach Pizazz is closer to the look of the daylily I am looking for but not quite.

Check out Purple Maze, it is registered at 36 inches height. I think it is quite pretty. NGA plant data base has lots of pictures and of course, American Hem. Society has a picture.

I don't know if this is what you want, but this is Purple Mask in my garden

It is a fairly early bloomer here and blooms quite a lot.

Kay, I cant find any information on Purple Mask . Neither AHS database nor National Gardening Association have any record of it . do you know the hybridizer by any chance .

Well let me check...be right back...I have a mental block about names and constantly screw up...Mantis catches me and he is almost always right....yep. It is Purple MAZE, not mask...I actually found the shot because Avedon recommended it, and I knew it is a great plant and a great bloomer here.

Isn't this strange? I remember seeing this DL quite a lot the past few years, but I don't have it, I just remembered the name. Now that I have taken a good look, I realize I really like it--Oh, no, another one added to the miles long want list!!

Purple Maze is a great daylily. We grow it and love it. We picked up Rosalie's Smile a couple of years ago. We bought it because it is a late bloomer, but soon realized what a great flower and plant it is. The hybridizer, Mort Morss describes it as buttery yellow, but it is more of a peach color in our garden. Here it a picture of it blooming last summer.

There are two listings for Purple Maze on the Daylily Auction (www.daylily.com).

Thank you, Dick, for being such a great enabler. I just did the instant buy for a four fan clump of Purple Maze. I should send you the bill :) LOL. P. S. I really like the look of Rosalie's Smile, but will just enjoy Nancy's picture. I have to do cutoff on buying sometime.

We keep telling ourselves that we aren't going to buy many more, but we keep doing it. We came home from the Can Am meeting in Ontario, Canada with 14 new plants. We bought only 12 of those. The other two were gifts.

When you buy in Canada, are there any problems about bringing them into the U.S.? Also, would love to know the names of the new daylilies.

You have to get a phytosanitary certificate to take them across the border. That can be costly, sometimes as much as $100 and many growers won't mess with the trouble of getting one. The Ontario Daylily Society is gracious to us Americans and brings in an inspector at no cost to us. At the US border you have to declare the plants and show the certificate. Two times we have been pulled over for further investigation. The first time, they searched the whole car, including going through our luggage. This time, the agent called somebody, looked at the plants, asked a few questions and let us through.

When we go to the Can Am, we try to concentrate on buying Canadian bred daylilies that might be hard to get otherwise. We also ordered from Don Longston, who wasn't at the conference, but he sent our plants to someone who was.

We brought back A Man Called Trout, Forever the Optimist, Auriel Dell, and Continuum from Don Longton. Reggie Morgan gave our daughter Shirley Koch. Gil Stetler gave Bob Gryphon Carl Linnaeus. At the auction we bought Cardinal Explosion, Happy Place, Raspberry Tears, TrueNorth Queen Bee, and TrueNorth Eye in the Sky. From the sales tables we bought My Lips are Sealed, Ruckus, and Pretty Little Polly. Most of the auction plants are from Canadian hybridizers (except for Happy Place which is from Eric Simpson).

The Canadians are spirited buyers because it is difficult to get American plants in Canada. Tom Polston, Jamie Gossard, Bob Faulkner, and Eric Simpson had a lot of plants in the auction. While the auction is going on, I have to keep telling myself that these prices are in Canadian dollars, but still some got too high for my wallet. I think a couple went as high as $600 Canadian.

It was great fun. The Canadians always treat us well.

A phyto here in Ontario is only $13 so not pricey like some states now . New York state has a reasonable phyto cost of $25 Oregon cost is $50 ,though some states are in the $100 mark.
