Cedar Emerald Color Change After Winter in Toronto

Hi,
I had my cedar emeralds (12 of them) covered during winter. They are planted as a barrier around the front yard with 3 feet distance in between each. This spring I removed the covers that I purchased from Lowes to find the tree color dull. Please see attachment. Please advice what is wrong and what needs to be done.
