Question about plants that produce stolons

Does the mother plant do better when the stolons (with babies) are removed from the pot? I have a plant that produces many stolons and was wondering if it makes a difference to the mother plant if they were removed and potted up individually. Does the mother plant grow better? Do the stolons/babies take energy away from the mother plant while they are attached to her?

What kind of plant is this? Might make a difference. Well-rooted stolons probably don't take energy away from the mother since they have roots and can support themselves. But if in a container, all those roots might be fighting for real estate. Would like to see a pic.
