are you asking if you should stain your treads (which look like Fir) or asking if you should replace them w/pine or oak? I see some treads in the pic,,what did you get?

Is your flooring done or is that getting stained ? hard to tell from your pictures or your post.

If you're buying new treads, get the oak, and leave them natural.

that should match your flooring. I would do different spindles than those black wrought iron ones if you want natural.

if you want them a bit darker, do a provincial color stain, or early american.

paint the risers black or white.

I’m replacing the stair threads with new ones. The ones you see are pine but I’m thinking of returning them for oak.. and yes i think I’m going to stain them but what color..

this is white oak. above looks like a natural oil finish. ditto below, but it may have a sun bleached or weathered gray stain to it. varathane has both those colors. (No Minwax!)

That black stair riser is absolutely amazing... however this will be a future rental property so I want to keep simple..i think the first one is really nice.. my floors are a oak white with a brown gray undertone

so because it's a future rental you can't paint the riser black? lol. it's pretty simple looking. it's only paint. when it comes time to rent, stick on some vinyl riser decals/stickers. tons of colors designs. this way you protect the wood. it's cheap and looks good

as for your stain, try the weathered gray or sunbleached on a spare piece of wood and see how close you get to your flooring. if you want to go a bit darker, stay away from anything w/red in it.

I wrote what it was under the photo. it's white oak. natural. looks like they may have done a matte oil finish. something like Rubio or similar. I haven't used those products so I'm not sure.

you could try just doing a matte clear coat floor poly.

white oak. the grain is smoother. red oak will have a pink undertone if left natural.

here are some white oak boards that I had. these are natural,,,only sanded.

i used these to make a new desk top. I also used this wood to frame out our skylight. I had to stain it to get it to match the oak flooring we used on the ceiling.

the 1x1 trim pieces are what I stained to match the flooring. I believe I used a little bit of gray or sunbleached stain. I mix my own colors so it's hard to remember
